I saw Bela, Vic, and the rest of the 'Tones many, many years ago. The guy I was actually most impressed with was FutureMan. I've never seen anybody that does what he does.
A totally unique talent.

I'm not trolling. You pushed aside someone's opinion (which was a joke) saying something as stupid as "I've never heard of you or seen your name on CDs" and people called you up on it, period.

Be a man and admit you tried to take a shot at someone who just turned out to be one hell of a bass player, thats all :)

Dude, why are you inserting yourself into something that doesn't concern you? Why are you so intent on fighting someone's battle for them when in fact, there is none?
What do you want from me? If you hate me so much, why air it here? What are you trying to accomplish?:confused:

Well slug I'm not here to fight you but you did attempt to take a stab at me just because you never heard of me other than here at TB and from that statement it was evident that you did not research anything about me as a bassist/producer etc.

I understand fully why Morf got involved,because it gets sickening here on TB that guys are so quick to discredit anothers contribution whether that player is known or not.

I could care less if some one doesn't know who I am or like my music or bass playing because there are some who like it enough to keep calling me back(I have never had a 9-5) and I'm going to keep doing my thing in the process,what ever that may be.

Yo Beaver, it's Mike from Chicago (yeah right, I personally know 4 other Mikes from Chicago who play bass). THANK YOU for you comments, I wanted to say the same things but I know that some guys here are being sarcastic and pulling our chains. Especially the cat who claims to not even know who Victor is, I love that Jauqo. But jokes aside, I don't heed to the comments that outright put downs anyones playing, even if they've earned the negativity. If Victor has a timing issue or bass playing problem, I think he would seriously like to hear how he could clean up his act. So if these guys here can't post a little constructive criticism, then why do they even bother saying the negative thing? I think it is a call for attention or just to see what others will say in response. I respect your opinions highly as I've enjoyed our conversations and look forward to reading more from you. Now if someone here wants to call anybody "Slap Happy", Beaver is a good target. Keep up the great work!

We've been friends since then and I see him about once per year, at which point, he continues to create new stuff (yes, musical). 'Never stops growing, creating.

Like Jaco, Stanley, and a handful of others, he changed the way bass is played and showed new possibilities of what could be done with it.

To boot, he's an amazingly nice, generous, and humble human being.

Again, I simply can't believe some of these comments.....

You never know if it's troll really using another's name etc on a forum. So I look and see. No wonder vic and you are friends :o

I know we shall see many new great things from Vic in the coming years. Vic is not the type it seems to me, what little I've seen and listen comparatively speaking to many of you, that is going to rest.

He appears possessed enough.

You never achieve absolute truth or perfection, but getting a little bit closer and closer to it as time moves on is a worthy goal. He seems on that path and he's scary good now.

Stu Hamm has progressed and evolved, as has Stanly and most all others.

As far as the Troll or anyone else moaning........as Jaco said " It ain't bragging if you can back it up".

So where is the evidence?

I love music and the bass so much as it really opens up so many different styles and player's and their take on things. I see things I may have thought years ago I did not like, but out it comes on my bass and I have a new found respect and humbleness for it.

My thumb is sore today after listening to Vic and trying to get a few lines down. So he's had a good influence on me. Any bassist does that makes you go try and learn more than you know.

It allows me to live a very enviable life style that being a full time bass player could never, ever provide to me & my family. The best thing about that, for me, is I can play music without having to use it to put food on my plate, or pay the mortgage. I'm not worried about my old age fund. I can do it simply for the pure joy of making music without being beholden to anything or anyone. I have no CD's to sell or anything to prove. In my world, I am successful enough. I played over 75 live paid gigs last year. My phone rings constantly. I have to turn down work. It gets to be too much at times. Being able to say no is huge. I like having a balance. At the end of the day, it's all about how we choose to live our lives and what makes us content. It ain't all about the bass.

Also, I just have to say that I don't get why some people are putting so much hate out there just because someone can make a living doing what that someone enjoys doing.

The people who are the most respectful and positive musicians out there, and on this board, are often the people who are out there playing the most. They simply have nothing to prove.

Sorry I'm a little off topic, but when I saw the Flecktones at the Acoustic Planet tour, Futureman came out and sat in the middle of the audience next to a girl who he seemed to be close friends with. I just thought that it was really interesting that he came out to watch another band play at his own show. I wish I was able to get closer to see Victor better though! Darn drunk teenagers...

I happen to have the "Live Art" album in front of me, and looking through the track listing at least half of the songs feature no double-thump, tapping or acrobatics at all. Obviously, on boards like this and in musician's circles, the mind-blowing fireworks are what gets talked about, but he can construct some killer bass lines that support the band. I highly recommend this album, and for understated bass check out the tracks "Oh, Darling!", "Flight of the Cosmic Hippo" and "Sunset Road".

The problem I have with this statement is this----After Live Art, there was not IMO another album that reflected how tasteful Vic Wooten is as a musician. Chops or not, please tell me Vic's music doesn't seriously lack in writing.....His bass playing is great, but he seriously lacks in what he writes. It's very corny. Soul Circus was trash to say the least...

As with most of the Bela Fleck albums, Live Art is the best, the rest are mediocre.....

Sorry, but groove kills flashy playing everytime. You can't tell me you can go on Youtube and listen to a Marcus solo and he makes your nose and face turn up at how funky it is.....Vic just doesn't do that...
