Vintage Ampeg B-10? Combo/Stack tube amp?

Well I played through a (IIRC) Ampeg B-10 stack tube amp, but it had like a head but you could unhook the head and put inside the cab. I loved it! I will start playing live soon (hopefully by the end of this month) and I need a serious amp. It was 2 band EQ which made me lol cause I couldn't stand not having mids control on the new musicman classics. But it had a normal or bright imput, it kinda sounded like the bright was bypassing the tubes. Am I correct? It also had 2 imputs, and controls for each input, 2 EQ knobs for each imput.

Anyways, they want $750. Sounds low for a vintage Ampeg, but.... thats why I'm starting a thread, whats the price range for these? Worth it? Any info on the amp in general would be cool also.

bright it just a brighter input doesn't bypass gain stages. tone stack in these amps is more flexible than most other valve amps since you can cut AND boost he mids. (turn treble and bass up to cut and vica versa to boost)

power amp valves for these aren't really expensive and should last a life time

So guy tried to sell me on the SWR combo they had cause I could screw the tubes up and stuff moving it around and stuff from gigging. I didn't play the SWR yet but I'll go and play it later, unless it's f***ing awesome, I'm getting the Ampeg.

Unless you're a complete idiot, you wont screw the tubes up moving it around and gigging. Use the standby switch when you turn it on, don't move the amp around roughly when the tubes are warm, and make sure it's always connected to a cab when turned on and you'll be fine.

Oh ok. While I was there today one of the tubes acted up and the guy said if I bought it he'd replace all the tubes if needed. Cause he's not sure if it was just a glitch (I'm using the wrong word) or something actually wrong with the tube.

We'll see

Well it's a 70s model which don't usually sell for as much as the 60s versions, but they are pretty darn good too. The thiele designed cabs are supposed to be pretty good, certainly can't go wrong with this amp.

used to own both, i ended up going with the 60's. more my thing. but they're all fantastic in their own ways. all a little different, all a lot of kickass.

Oh and each input on this amp (both set flat) sound a bit different. Very cool IMO

Mega disappointment. Yesterday when I played it the tube glitched up, not my fault. But I went in today actually to check out the SWR and the ampeg wasn't there. I talked to the guy and turns out it excited a transformer (or something like that) in the amp and it's broke now. They're not sure if they want to fix it and sell it or what. I would like to buy it and pay for the repair if their price is right. Anything guys?

Looking at those transformers, their sale price just went from 750 to 250 and that's if you fix it yourself.

kinda sounds like the 'blind leading the blind' at that shop to me. i really doubt that a 'glitchy tube' would take out a tranny unless there was tin-foil in the fuse post.
