Vintage Hagstroms

A quick aside from the "Dating" discussion (and another big thanks to T.D. for all the help!):

I visited the Orlando Hard Rock Cafe (at Universal Studios) last week, and they have Noel Redding's '67 Hagstrom 8 String on display. I got a huge kick out of it, one of the highlights of my Florida trip... Not a very good photo but here you go:

Bob, your sons Hagstrom guitar is a Viking II. It was the 321st one made in production run number 732. That particular production run produced 1000 of Viking II's between 1967-68. Seeing that your sons guitar was the 321st made in the run, I would say that it was most likely made in 1967. Sorry for your loss.

Your Hagstrom is a Sunburst Viking I semi-acoustic guitar made in production run 680. That run produced 1000 of them during 1965-66. Seeing that your guitar was the 919th Viking I made in the run, it's very safe to say that it was made in 1966.

Thanks so much Thornton..that's a big help. It is missing the pickguard, but the mounting bracket is still in the case. Is there anywhere to buy replacement parts for Hagstroms now?Also missing one decal on a knob..I'd like to put it back like new. It's in pristine condition.

And as a result is the most valuable. I have been looking for many years for one, on Ebay, CL, and here, and I have never seen one for sale, ever. And if I did, it would almost certainly be more $ than I could justify spending, unless the seller didn't know what they had, and I got to it first! They are full-scale and neck-through.

These are rare, like even rarer than....an original (old) Zemaitis, a Travis Bean, a Guild JS II long-scale, an old Epiphone Embassy, an Abe Rivera, a '51 P Bass. A real holy grail to find.

Well your Viking was made in production run 695 which produced 1,000 of them. Your guitar was the 225th one made in that run. As for dating it, it's difficult to say because production run 695 started in 1966 and concluded in 1967. But seeing that it was the 225th one made, it's safe to assume that it was most likely made in 1966.

Hi Guys
I think I may be getting past the point where I will get back into playing my old Hagstrom, but would be interested in it's date and possibly a guess on it's value. I believe it is an H II B from what I see here and it is in great working condition and pretty darn good cosmetic condition for it's age. I bought it while I was in Junior High shortly after the Meet the Beatles album came out. The serial number is 619311.

I'm planning on picking this up over the Christmas break.

I think it's an H-IIB
Serial number 700243. Thorton .. any idea of age?
Does it look complete?
Ancient old nylon strings on it by the look of it.

It looks to be in good condition. All original except the case. It's an old case just not a Hagstrom case.

Notice the headstock and the way the strings are guided through the pull down bar and also the way they wrap to the tuning machine posts (from the left).

My Hagstrom Model I (Ithink) has a serial # 587485. Can you date it for me. I'm curious to find out when it was made. I bought it used around 1967-68 so I'm thinking it was made somewhere between 1962-1966. Any help would be appreciated. My bass didn't have the plastic front. It was solid wood. It also had a Hagstrom plastic logo on the body that I've lost. THank you for any help as it's still my sentimental baby.
