Bass & Vinyl appreciation thread?

I'm in heaven.

Anyways, my wife and I have a pretty nice collection of records. I spun rare-groove when I was younger and my wife has always collected DUB & Reggae. I'm fully into my band now, so I rarely play any of my records outside of my house.

The Expedit shelves are pretty common for record storage, and do a darn good job. The only time I've heard of issues is when people have the larger units and don't anchor them to the wall. Typically, though, the shelves seem perfectly capable of handling 70-80 LPs per square with no trouble.

Can you get ikea by mail order or have to go travel to a store? I`d like some thing simple like that white stand posted above but I don`t have a store any where near me( I think Philly or Toronto are my options).
By the way(and I say this not as a boast) but on eBay alone I`ve spent $1,000 on records these last 3 months. Not that I have regrets but I just can`t believe how fast that added up. ugh. Is that average for you guys?

I'm fairly new to vinyl. I was introduced by my father's ever expanding collection (which ranges from classic rock, to jazz fusion, will all sorts of other styles thrown in) and the recently inherited stack of records that were my grandfather's, and I've set out to get some more vinyl-y goodness that I can really call my own. I've currently got about 40 in a yet to be organized box, and I'm constantly going to record stores to try and find something interesting.

I just updated my speakers to a pair of Cerwin-Vega 250 SE's and will most likely pick up a Sansui 9090 Receiver. I just heard the 9090 (thru my Vegas) last night with one of my vinyl LPs, pretty warm and loud sounding setup.

Now the issue is finding an appropriate stand to hold that 50 lbs beast....! I may have to just build one myself.

My local record stores didn't get much interesting stuff for Record Store Day, my only for sure buy was going to be Mastodon's Live at the Aragon 2LP + DVD combo, but they didn't have it. Just ordered it off mastodonrocks.com, didn't want to miss out on getting it.

Got a sealed original of The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan though! One of my favorite folk records.

Good choice, though I've always thought Let it Bleed was better. :p


Last year I picked up the Hendrix @ Clark University Record. I have a hard time picking between that and Band Of Gypsys, to be honest... BoG is one of my favorite albums, but Clark sounds so good... like amps being run way, way, too hot (another personal pleasure).

I have "Let It Bleed", too. "Exile" is a recent aquisition. I dig them both.

My Hendrix collection is woefully thin. The only one I have on vinyl is "Smash Hits".
