Vinyl spinners club

For Record Store Day I bought the quadruple LP "Telesterion" by Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. He`s the guitarist for The Mars Volta and was one of two guitarists for(the long defunct) At The Drive In. It`s 18 of his songs culled from his 56 solo albums(holy crap that`s a lot of solo stuff!) to help introduce newer fans to his works.
It`s a pretty cool box set. It comes with a big 20 page book(let) of photos and some words written by his friend Sonny Kay (from 90`s emo/screamo pioneers Angle Hair). It also comes with a laminated "backstage pass" that has a code on it that lets you download the whole thing for free. And there`s only 350 of them! Neato!

I also have a question that I thought my fellow vinyl lovers could help me with. I just bought a copy of Hot Cross`s Cryonics. It`s an awesome album( I`ve had the CD for years). However,I noticed that the center hole for the spindle is pretty tight. I was able to place it fully on the turntable to listen to side A,but trying to take it off and flip it over was super hard. I was worried that I might warp or bend the record pulling it off of the spindle.
I wasn`t even able to begin to push the record down on the spindle once I had flipped it over to the B side. This isn`t the first time I`ve had this problem with a record. I tried to put the 45 adapter down first so the LP wouldn`t have to go down as far on the spindle. That didn`t work. The LP was way too unstable on top of the 45 adapter for my liking.
Next I tried stacking 2 turntable mats on top one another to see if that ate up some of the spindle length(and thus I wouldn`t have to force the record down as much). That didn`t work either. Then I tried placing the adapter down and putting a mat over that to see if that gave the LP more support. That also didn`t work.
Any of you ever have that problem with a LP or EP? Do any of you have a solution that doesn`t involve making the hole in the record bigger in order for it to fit?
Do I have some oddball extra thick spindle on my turntable or what?
Thanks for the help every one! This is bugging the hell out of me!

I am tempted to pick up a record player. What is the minimum I could spend for one of a player that isn't total junk?

To get a good bang for your buck...I would recommend a used table from a manufacturer that is still making parts. Companies like Pro-ject and Rega come to mind. Even the high end Denon is a decent choice.

I got a used Sota for a great price online..and it's american made...and they stand behind their products...much like the companies I just mentioned.

Try and stick with belt drive....you'll thank me later.

What's your budget? You can find very usable tables on eBay for $100-ish (Technics and Pioneer tables from the '90's and earlier are usually a safe choice). You'll likely need to buy a new cartridge, too.

If you're willing to spend $400-ish, a used Technics SL-1200mk2 is a pretty bullet-proof, very well regarded, and highly upgradeable unit.

In my opinion, you'll get a lot more bang for your buck buyng used. Do lots of research, and shop carefully.

Compared with the low-budget Technics deck I was running before, the H/K gives me a more open sound stage with better definition. I'm diggin' it!

Just a curious question assuming you took that picture, Eric: Is that an Eagles LP, by any chance?

I just bought a nice triple vinyl copy of 1999`s The Fragile by Nine Inch Nails. Pretty awesome,I`ve been wanting that particular record for the past year or so. I`m a huge fan of Trent Reznor.
Speaking of I also bought How To Destroy Angels,Reznor`s new band with his wife on vocals.

How has the quality of the mixes been on some of the newer releases? My vinyl copy of Radiohead's 2LP OK Computer sounds really good, but my copy of Foster the People's Torches on vinyl just sounds really abrasive and *loud* like it was a direct from compressed to hell masters w/o a vinyl-specific mix.

It makes me wary to buy more newer releases.... I assume it's a case-by-case.. My copy of Superunknown is pretty great too...

I do, though I just started. Being 22 I wasn't fortunate enough to grow up with this time honored music form. Most of my collection was handed down to me and I really enjoy listening. There's something about it that just fancies me. Most of the collection is classic rock, which is awesome for me. One of my favorite genres. I just picked up ...and justice for all, my favorite metallica album. I am proud of these though..

And this is my whole collection..
