I've got another question you you guys..what steps should I take to properly take care and preserve the vinyls and my equipment as much as possible?
Apparently laying albums flat can warp them.
Well, I got some vinyl recently. I want to invest in a stereo, but I've been a bit overwhelmed looking online. Any advice on where to start?

Ok, I finally borrowed a turntable from one of my buddies, but don't know if its any good. The table is labaled Audio-Technica AT-PL50. Is this table any good?
It will play records, but the specs put it in the lower end of the spectrum for quality...Invalid Link Removed
That's a pretty high number for W&F (speed stability). Most decent TTs will have a W&F below 0.1%.
It also appears to have a built-in phono pre-amp, which is convenient for connecting to modern components without a phono input, but I wouldn't expect the quality to be very good.
I'd suggest looking for a used TT online. With some careful shopping and a little research, you can get a decent TT for reasonable money. Brands to look for with plenty of decent, low-budget options are Pioneer, Technics, Yamaha, and Kenwood.
Some of the best resources I've used for everything vinyl are Invalid Link Removed and the forums at www.audiokarma.org.
Yeah, I would definitely agree is has more W&F and unwanted Distortion than I would like, but Its a lot better than I expected. As long as its not destroying my records I'm fine.
Distortion could mean that the stylus is worn, dirty, or severely out of alignment. All of these things can lead to inceased groove wear. A clean record, with a properly-aligned and clean stylus, on a decent system can sound as quiet as a CD.
Ha, I found out why I was having too much distortion. I was running my TT into the Phono Preamp input on my Sony sytem, without realising that the AT-PL50 had an internal preamp. I ran it into the Aux. input on the same system, and it sounds FANTASTIC! I run the TT into my reciever (A vintage Sony something or other, very clean and loud) into a pair of Baby Advents.
