At 50$ a pop I'm pretty sure I'll be getting one. AudioKarma looks cool, I made an account there today.

I have two DJ turntables (a 1200 and a 1200 copy by Gemini) and a mixer on a 2x4 Expedit on its side. They really are great. Havbe one in the bedroom upright for sweaters and such. Good design.

Does anybody have any tips/product/home remedies that they use to combat the static cling that builds up on the platter and record after a spin or two? I hate when my mat sticks to the record when I flip it over to change sides or when I`m done listening to it. Plus having to brush all the dust,lint and cat fur that gets attracted to the vinyl once a charge has built up is a PITA.

Right now I have 3 dryer sheets placed between the platter and the mat. That seems to stop the static for a little while but they have to be replaced. I know that there is a tool you can buy that kind of looks like a BBQ grill lighter that will discharge the build up but it`s pretty expensive.

Is there any kind of mat that is anti-static that works and isnt too pricey? Or anything else that you guys find that works?

I've heard good things about this from a few people but I've never actually used it myself so I can't confirm it (also reviews are good for it):

My mat does look like its made out of a similar material as this one though and I don't really have any problems with static cling. I've been told a leather mat will help reduce this problem to, plus it will improve the sound quality of your vinyl. Also I usually try to clean all my records once a week with a microfiber cloth, which helps keep dust and crap from sticking to them.

That stinks man:( how long have you your'e current belt for? They can get worn out after a couple of years but a belt replacement isn't to difficult IIRC

I have no idea, I bought the table used. For all I know it's still the original (early 90's).

IMHO If it's that old then I would guess it probably needs replacing or some of the parts may inside may just need a cleaning?

Edit-Also if your'e getting any weird variations in pitch while playing a record, I would say you most likely need to replace the belt, they don't look to expensive though:
Invalid Link Removed I should add this all just based off what I've been told by others with similar issues, I've never had problems with my belt yet so I could be wrong.

Thanks for the link man! I bought something very similar thru amazon for 15 bucks a while back,carbon fiber mixed in the mat. For me it doesn't work all that well,hence me using dryer sheets.

Maybe I`ll try out the leather mat next?

For Christmas a few years ago, my parents got me this weird bowl made out of a vintage record. Sort of pressed into a fruit bowl shape.

The one I got? Head Hunters. I put it on the table, and the lip of it that wasn't heated, pressed, and bent -- still played! Vein Melter.

And the copy didn't even look trashed at all. A shame.

I have a good copy too...

I love vinyl, though have only been collecting for about a year now. I'm just a young'un so I didn't have the luxury of having records from years past.
There's nothing like pulling out a classic album, putting the needle down, and hearing that nice warm crackle.
