VT Bass Mod (w/pics)

Would it be feasible to add a trim pot (accessible via a small screwdriver-sized hole drilled in the case) to tweak the LF roll-off point to taste?

I guess it is because they want us to buy two boxes. First this one and then the deluxe version. They are clever.

That is a sweet idea...
This whole thing is quite interesting. It started with a DI output and now ten thousand people have had input on a new creation of an extended variety of custom mods...cool. I usually don't do smilies, but cool is cool.
ya, it snowballed pretty good for you. and now that they made you a dealer, it's almost like they're quietly endorsing your mods. good for you, bro. you saw a hole in the market and filled it.
I may just be stupid, but I'm new to world of DIs. Would I be able to run a line out to my amp's power section using it as a Preamp, as well as using the DI?
Also shielded cable to the amp?

i sent my british pedal to mike to get that low end cap/trimpot mod to add a little more low end to it, and after i sent it, i decided to give it the works...so now it'll have a di, phantom, and ground lift. i opted out of the pre/post switch and the blinding blue led, though 
looking forward to it. in some ways i like it better than the vt, and it really makes me want to buy a marshall head. until i see the prices, that is. but the british and a crate power block into a b-15 cab are hopefully going to be my new micro rig. still undecided about the power block, though. you can hear distortion on it even with an external preamp.

I have been talking to Mike at Putnam about building a rack mod for the vt. He said that he could put 2 vt's in a 1u rack unit. This would allow me to have a semi deluxe with 2 channels right now.
He also said that he could put a 500w amp in the same rack. Has anyone here had any experience on how his amp might sound. Right now I am running the vt into the instrument input on the front of a Markbass LMT 800 and I love the sound. I run the LMT 800 flat and use the vt as the tone controller, so the preamp adds what it does without any eq'ing. I am concerned that by eliminating the LM800 preamp I will lose something in the current sound.
I am also using Markbass cabs which work and sound great with the vt.
Any thoughts?

i've played through one of the amps that he uses. I ran it into a fender bassman 2x12 cabinet. it was loud and proud... clear and strong signal.
i want mike to make me a vt bass single rackspace w/a 500w amp and built in tuner. i gotta save up some pennies, but i can see one in my future. it's going to simplify things so much... and the sound, oh yeah!

looking forward to hearing what you think of the modded unit, and want to add i've been playing thru my '79 marshall JMP lately, into a berg nv610, and it sounds pretty nice for bass (cleanish up to reasonable volumes, then capable of great overdrive)
You probably have way more experience with the PowerBlock than my brief encounter at Guitar Center, but I was underwhelmed by a pretty substantial amount. I went in ready to plop down the plastic. It wasn't up to the task.
I am still toying with the idea of one of each of the Character pedals (British and VT) to use as a front end to my Shuttle 6.0 as power. I mean I'm still subscribed to this thread aren't I? Leave the backline (power, speakers) behind you and have the preamp at your feet...

Added: Bunny10 - really, consider a VT and a British. I think you'd get a lot better versatility out of the two than just two of the same and using them as presets.

the putnam amp on your pedalboard idea looks very interesting..as does the idea that was briefly kicked around here for a while (maybe needs its own thread?) about using the big space inside the new Peavey 1600 class d, the one without the dsp board, for a tech 21 character series.
ya, well i never play too loud and the distortion from it i think will get masked. for a rainy day/backup rig i think it'll be fine. if not, i'll sell it and get something else.
i don't think so. i think some asked for some sort of tuner out modification already. also, there's still the possibility of getting the deluxe into a rackmount with or without an amp.
also, this thread had sparked off many other mod ideas. some people are looking to mod their other tech21 pedals. i think some individuals want to different pedals in one rackmount with a foot switch to go back and forth.
i think at least one person has gone for a capacitor mod to get get more low end out of their blonde pedal.
anything is possible. it all depends on what you're looking for. if you can imagine it, mike can probably make it happen.
i've mentioned this a few times, but i love talking about it. i want my vt in a single space rackmount with a 500w amp inside along with a built in tuner and all the cool DI stuff too. yup... that's my idea of a good time right there.
