VT VS BDDI

I've owned both and found that neither delivered everything I wanted, but both delivered a lot of it... If that makes sense... Kinda vague, haha.

In other words, they both got me to about 75% of what I wanted to hear, but were missing the last 25%. With the BDDI stuff (owned a standard BDDI, a programmable and an RBI) I found that the lower mids weren't present enough. With the VT I found that the upper mids were too present in the 1khz region. It's a tough call. If I had to do it again I would go with the VT, or more specifically the programmable VT.

Several years back, I bought a Bass Driver and swore by it, stating that I would never, ever get rid of it. Then one day I played a VT. Bought it the same day, sold my BDDI the next day. The VT really cuts through the mix, and sounds like an actual vintage SVT to me whereas the BDDI had a more modern sound, was boomier, and had a tendency to get lost in a loud band setting aside from the low end rumble and the clangy pick attack.

I only regret selling the BDDI now because it would be nice to have the DI capabilities for larger shows. I still prefer the sound from the VT though. Should have kept both.

I am bumping this to add a question:

What does the VT NOT do that the BDDI DOES do? Are the completely different tonally or can you still get that cleaner, tubey tone out of the VT like you can the BDDI?

The BDDI has a DI, the standard VT does not. They do have a different tone profile. Yes, you can get a clear, tubey tone out of the VT, although it may not sound identical to the BDDI and vice versa. They both sound great and both have faults exclusive of the other.

I like the VT because of the presence of the mids. I want a deluxe for the storage of settings, and the DI. Cheers.

btw, storage of settings is absolutely wonderful. it's a little harder to deal with it on the fly, but once you lock your settings in, they're in. i don't think i've touched a knob in months...maybe just adjusting the upright channel's volume for different electric basses i use...that's about it.
