I don't entirely agree, but we'll go with your premise. If you focus on what's wrong with a band, you'll never be happy. Focus on what is good about the band, you might be surprised how much difference that will make.

I don't entirely agree, but we'll go with your premise. If you focus on what's wrong with a band, you'll never be happy. Focus on what is good about the band, you might be surprised how much difference that will make.

I didn't leave either of the last 2 bands I have played in. Both bands broke up. That's entirely different than me leaving a band.
There will be problems in all bands you just have to deal with it as best you can.
Update:
I should have a yes or a no from the band tonight.
The 2nd audition was more like a rehearsal.I played from 7 till 9.
If they want me to come back again, while I have nothing to lose, I will decline and wish them the best

If the second one was more like a rehearsal than an audition, then whatever they call or don’t call the next meeting, it’s surely another step forward, so just think of it that way and ride with it.
Actually, the long process of getting a new member translates to more security for you.
I'm sure this whole process is stessful, but try to maintain a positive attitude…

I will agree here 2 times is ok and have done this and seen this myself but three no way. If they want you back to play without telling you if you are the man I would put it on the line to them right then and there. Am I in or not?
This is sort of a thick-headed attitude that I hate to see from you, Blue, and will really narrow your chances of it ever working out with any band. Either that, or you simply don't want the position in the first place...no harm in that either.
My band auditioned our new singer a few years ago (amongst a half-dozen other vocalists) and brought him in ON the FOURTH audition. I could tell after the third audition, he was a little surprised we didn't just take him then and there, and maybe feeling the same way you feel right now. But when he came in, we ran through the same 3 or 4 songs we'd been rehearsing, our drummer tossed him a set of keys to the practice space and we cracked a bottle of champagne. It was a HUGE decision, and I'm glad we took our time getting it right.
A band is like a family, and you have to make sure everyone fits just right. These things take time - especially in an original band where members are supposed to be writing and working very closely with each other. Writing can be a very vulnerable time for some people, and even weirder when there are new guys around.
We had other guys we had to give a fair chance to audition - they've been rehearsing the parts just like everyone else, just like you too. And even if we knew they weren't the guy, they had the right to come and try to blow us away like everyone else. If not even for us, at least for their own experiences, and to make them better musicians in the long run.
Besides, I thought you were REALLY into these guys.
I say, hang in there. Go to a third audition if they ask you. Rock it harder than you did the other two. If they call you back for a fourth, go to that too. Just keep showing up. What's it going to hurt?
Then again, if you don't think the band is worth it, maybe you should just find another group that is looking for a bassist.
Sorry BB, but I disagree. If you really want something, you gotta do what you gotta do. If they have other guys to audition, its only fair everyone gets their chance.
Obviously, if the band is just jerking you around, that's a different story...
I agree that the harder a band works to get the right person, the more serious the band, and the better the opportunity. Generally speaking.

And i see your point. It would be a tough call and I guess I would base it on the band and what level they are at. I have been in 5 bands since getting back to music a little over 10 years ago and most I was in after a audition or two..never three so I'm basing it on myself.
I feel any band should have a player by then. Blue has been going thru the process with this band for a couple of weeks and that might start to set off some red flags if they ask him for another audition. he said they are a blues band and IMO it should not take that long to find a good solid player, one that fits the band and the players? Well, that might take longer.

Me? No...I think even Blue would agree I understand him more than most and have had his back more allot of the time maybe not always but allot.
I do think he was short changing himself during this band audition process and said something to him. He is like me and just wants to play and needs it to make him complete. Maybe more than me or others here but its part of who he is.
Sometimes this makes him say and do things he should not but thats part of it. At least thats the way I look at Blue...he's passionate, much more that allot here and just wants to find a band that will work as hard as he does if I have read him right.

No, you're right. I tend to get too passionate for my own good about myself as a bass player and the whole band culture.
I think I might make more sense to those looking back at 40 plus years of playing.
Blue, after you got back with them the other day did they say if they were still having other bassists try out or what is holding them from making a choice?
