Waiving The White Flag Of Surrender

I agree and Blues attitude toward originals bands having an open door policy to bassists is insulting to bassists who are in originals bands writing their own material.

My comments were not intended to insult anyone. It was merely my personal experience with originals bands in my area. They have always been easy to get into while working cover bands have been difficult.

As for being musically challenged.
Whether it be covers or originals, neither are easy if your playing the parts correctly

Yeah Blue, you need to stop with this idea that original bands have nothing to offer since (good) new music is coming out all the time. You just have to search around for it.

Also, I play in a band that is half originals and half covers and we have at least one gig every week from here on til the end of next January. Each one is paying at least $200 (with some gigs paying up to $1,000). It's possible for original bands to make good music and good money at the same time - so don't say it isn't so or that people are wasting their time.

The call today was from the BL and he says he's in my corner.

The Guy that was supposed to audition tonight canceled and they don't know if he is going to reschedule.

The BL liked my sound from the initial audition.

He wants me to come back tonight.

I responded with a " sure no problem, it was a lot of fun playing with you guys last time.

Stay tuned:

...but at least the soap opera aspect is kinda entertaining.

I know. On one hand, if he doesn't get the gig, we'll get to keep this thread going for a while. On the other, if he does get it we'll be treated to a new thread in a couple weeks about all the problems with the band. A month in we'll get a thread about should he quit or not. Then we can restart the auditioning threads in a couple months.

No band is going to be perfect.

So nice to have our entertainment planned out for the next while. At least that's one thing we can count on in this crazy business! :D

But seriously... Blue, that's great news. I had a good feeling about this when the BL sent you additional songs to learn. Hope it all works out and for goodness sake, have fun with it!

Haha, there's probably a grad student in social work somewhere building a theoretical model of Blue's relationship with bands, complete with "honeymoon," "tension building," and "acting out" phases of the cycle.

Wouldn't that model be for any of us in bands.

Or are you saying being in a band and the whole scene is am easy ride for everyone except me?

Meh, it was just a joke based upon the abusive relationship cycle posited by Walker. It seems like every couple of months, you create a thread about how it's so tough out there auditioning. Then you find a band that is going to be the next Beatles. Then you start seeing problems with the band. Something happens with you leaving the band. Rinse, repeat.

You seem like a likable guy, Blue. But the ad nauseum cycle of you and bands and band drama has almost become a parody of itself.
