Same here. I was just outta high school and starting to attend college classes when BSSM hit. My band covered several of the tunes, but I couldn't afford even a decent bass then.

Yeah BSSM is an Icon for all bass players between 35 to 45 years old ! But nobody knows exactly which songs was really recorded with a Wal, right ?

Not officially per se, but youtube has a bunch that people recorded. Some of them decent, but most of them sound eh :hmm: you can do a search, "tool live concert" and you'll see a bunch.

TMB probably knows for sure but from my understanding Tool likes to be mysterious and what not, so putting out an official live concert i wouldn't hold my breath on.

I think pretty much everything that didn't have a low B was on a wal.

righteous and the wicked was a 5 string ray but I think almost everything else was the wal. there's a documentary on YouTube that shows flea recording with his wal. it's called Funky Monks.

The reason I'd originally bought my Stingray back in the day was because of BSSM, I also got a Galien Krueger 800rb and started using GHS Boomers, such an influential album. I only recently found out that he'd actually used a Wal on a lot of album tracks.

lol, me too. (saved up all summer bussing tables in 11th grade for the 675 bucks to buy a used one from dan lakin) but I was perfectly happy with my ray since my other favorite album was the original rage against the machine where Tim commerford played one. I've never saved for anything in my life like I did that ray.

Correct...they purposely do not release a live DVD so that people come out to their concert and have a real live experience rather than watch them on DVD.

Their live show is A+ but I wish they would play for longer

"Apache Rose Peacock" is a great song to hear that tone. There's an isolated track on youtube as well :bassist:

As far as Tool goes, saw them twice their last tour and it was great, one in Boston and the other took a drive to CT. So ya, watching them live and so much better then watching them on television.

and the naked in the rain solo is another great wal tone, and the greeting song. and suck my kiss. flea sounds like flea but for anyone who says it's all in your hands, you can absolutely hear the difference between that album and the next one, One Hot Minute which he recorded with his Alembic basses.

I know that there are a lot of Wals in BSSM, but it seems that's a little bit harder to listen clearly in some songs which bass Flea Used. Funk Monks VHS or DVD shows him playing a Wal on Give It away ! Wals and MMs StingRays with new strings , in some cases , have some kind of "Brothers Tones" due the powerful attack and strong brightness. But for me the definitive WAL bass Master will be Geddy Lee ! LOL !
