dude, thats very very hot! I still ponder on the exact type of finish my MKII should get. I love a good wenge Wal, but there are also some that are "meh..". I guess I could take a look at the wood before Paul builds the bass...
The best sounding Wal I played so far was a wenge midi Wal, Spiritchaser owned it some time ago. Crazy punch, but I sadly could not get over the plastic fretboard.

hi everyone, I need a opinion, as I see, most of the people here are owners at least of a 1 wal bass and I'm thinking in buy one(a new one) but i'm not sure, are very expensive, I can't afford buy a second hand for $5000, but if I buy a new one, I have more than a year to make the payment, according with some emails who Paul sent to me, I need to make a first deposit to begin, then a second deposit 3 or 4 months after the first, and finally the bigger one before the delivery....so I'm looking some advice or some reason who can convince me to make this "crazy" investment (I dont know if it's a investment or not)....why are they so special? I'm not a professional, I play in my room and with my friends, my equipment is: Rickenbacker 4001 jetglo, Fender P bass Higway sunburst, Fretless jazz bass custom, Fleabass with a cool "Lane poor" pickup and OBP 3 on it.....what do you think? I'm throing my money? it's only a tantrum? I really want one because Flea, Paul McCartney, Justin Chancellor and many other great bassists have one!....the problem: I'm a average "bassist", who maybe with some effort I can afford it, but I really need one?

Wal's are just cool ;p

Lol seriously though, Wals have a unique distinct tone. Whether your recording, playing live or jamming with friends. Do u "need one" probably not, but "wanting" is totally different. If you haven't already YouTube bass players with Wal and listen for yourself if this is a "want". PJ actually has a good amount but don't let his skills discourage u :P

As far as investments go, getting a custom bass is far from an investment unless its a tool thats going to generate you income (I.e gigs and shows). Trying to resell a custom build be prepared to at least lose $1k-2k. (Not including shipping, customs tax....... And one that I just got hit with recently but you should child if it applies in your state..... Use tax). Used Wals on the other hand will at least hold its value.

Ultimately its your decision, but once you put down that deposit, there's no turning back.

I'm no pro but I do like/want my Wal's!!!! :bassist:

I've yet to recieve my bass so take my opinion with a grain of salt. I just sent my last payment to Paul a couple days ago and feel so happy and excited. He said the bass should ship on the 30th. Having 17 months to pay it off was the only way I'd be able to afford the bass and Paul was great to work with. I think you should go for it. I'm sure you won't regret it.

This is exactly the reason who took my attention, the payment method!!!...for me it's the most reasonable way to have one, however, since I want to make the payment trough paypal I need to add 5% more in the invoice, plus the taxes.....how did you pay? How long took the whole process? 17 months? and if you don't mind, how much did you pay for the extras like: shipping, taxes and other?

I made a total of 6 payments to Paul. If you are not in the EU (like myself) you don't need to pay the VAT tax. The chipping was £310. I'm assuming that I'll get an import tax bill but that won't be until later so I'll cross that bridge when it's here. Paul quoted me 19 months and the bass will be done in 17.

LOL Jose ! You are 100% right ! Everybody needs a Wal ! Ask me if I need :

1) A Ferrari ? No, neither a Lamborghini !
2) A Plane ? No
3) A boat ? No
4) A Rolex ? No
5) Wals ? Yes and Yes !

Thanks for the info, I'm negociating with Paul about a similar payment method, and if it's possible avoid some taxes.. where are you from?

I really want one, but as I told before, is too much money!....:hmm::bawl::crying:
