On my older mk1's I squeeze the E-string with a pair of pliers till it fits. No problem. Yet.

Same here. Tiny squeeze and it slides right in. Never compromised a string doing so, and I wont buy Brand X string just to find something that fits.

So you are the one that that fretless neck was on hold for. Now i have to locate one of those
