Same here. Tiny squeeze and it slides right in. Never compromised a string doing so, and I wont buy Brand X string just to find something that fits.

I use DR Hi-Beams and have to do the same on my 1982 Mk1. Kind of annoying but meh.

There is a fretless neck on the bass direct site. Would an 86 fretless neck fit well on that. Basically are their tolerance that tight on the different bodies and necks.

Nice bass, I really like Wals in rare finishes like this one. Besides this, late 80's MKIs for me are the best ones !

I'll let you know once that '86 fretless neck arrives here from Bass Direct how it fits. I'd sure like to think their tolerance is consistant. I have an '86 MkI, but I'm planning on using that neck on my '90 MkI since it was originally a fretless bass.
