The older 80's preamps that only have two trims are only for:
Gain; the far right one.
Pick attack; far left one.

The front four knobs are: volume, pan, and a tone knob for each pickup. fyi, three of the knobs pull up.

Oh and 21 fret= Mark I, and 24 fret=Mark II.

FYI.....to all of us with Wals with the Schaller MS4s tuners....and heavy headstocks....

I purchased a set of MS4s Lights directly from Schaller for one of my Wal Mark II 5-strings...each tuner is 71 grams instead of 115 grams....I just switched the tuners and the difference is significant. Although still a heavy bass, the balance is much, much improved. The "Lights" are a direct replacement....same dimensions, etc, except much lighter...no addition of screws, or anything else...

I am going to get another set for my other Wal Mark II 5....

Thanks for sharing, I find I get a lot of neck dive with my MkI and can't stand using a wide strap, I never expected that changing the tuning keys out would make that significant a difference.
