I've used Roto Swing66's, but am going to try some others, since the Swing66's die pretty quickly. For fretless, I'm using DR Black Beauties on my defretted Kramer Striker Bass (see pic). These sound amazing and bright, and the black coating doesn't fall off. They're round-wounds, however. For flat-wounds, I like Thomastik-Infeld, even though, they're pricey.
Rotosound psd99s. Exposed core, last forever, super bright without too much zing and twang. I also use these on my jazz.

I been trying the DR miller some days now and they are good! Not that stiff as i thought! Really bright sound!
I just put some new rotosound bc66 just see if there was some big differens!!
Oh man now we talking stiff strings! And first feeling was that the sheehan strings were dead and useless but there are something?
I will give some time couse they feel great!
Need to try the for a while!
Love the gauge on the bb66! 43-110!

I asked Paul (Walbasses uk) what space he recommend between the strings and pickups?
Heres what he said:
The overall pickup heights are measured whilst holding down(fretting) the E and G strings at the 21fret. The distance between the top of the pickup pole piece and the bottom of the string should be 6mm on the E string and 5.5mm on the G string approx.

HELLLLLLO!!!! I am super happy to say I am now a Wal owner! Thanks to Caca de Kick who gave me a heads up about a possible deal in the UK - I now own a 95 Wal MKII 5 string. Played it last night with the band and it SMOKES! This is a 25 year old dream come true for me.

Congrats, etaym!! It's like the Men's Warehouse store, "You're going to like the way you look. I guarantee it!" But actually, you're going to fall in love with the tone. I can't stress enough how sweet the A and D strings sound on Wals. There's just *something* about them.

I only post in the classifieds of TB but I found this on google while searching for more information on my Wal pro bass that I have listed for sale. I'm trying to raise money to get a new Wal 5 string. I wonder if they are as good as the 78-79 Wal pro.
