Thanks Jason, it was a pleasure working with you too, the luster was partially there, so I brought it to Joe at Stevie B' in Clearwater he suggested a light sand/buff to get the spot by the pickup out and to bring out the shine, he cleaned the fingerboard, fixed the crack between the jacks, changed the tuners, of course I still have the original tuners, one day I'll get a screw for the D string tuner and see if I can get the broken screw out. I definitely recommend Joe at Stevie B's in Clearwater to anyone, you should see his hand built basses.

In the homestretch of my ProIIe refurb. This bass started life as a natural finish fretless. I converted to fretted with a trans-white finish. Going back to fretless now.

Hi all,

First time posting here but long time reader :)

Recently I put an order in for 2 basses with Paul, one will be a 5 string fretted mk3, the other a fretless. But I still haven’t decided on the spec of the fretless and I thought I would ask the opinion of you guys here.

I can’t decide if I want a mk1 or mk3 4 string fretless, or even a mk3 5 string fretless! I love the icon that is the mk 1 fretless and they play great. I haven’t had the opportunity to play the mk3 but I’ve heard that it is slightly lighter (a good thing as I have a bad back) and has better balance (another plus for me).

So if any of you have played both the mk1 and mk3 basses I would appreciate your opinion on them.

I would recommend the Mark III 5. Definitely the best balanced and lightest of the styles. My fretless 5s are English Sycamore (Mark II) and Walnut (Mark III) facings....both sound great but a bit different. Paul I am sure will have a good recommendation as to what to use.

Does anyone happen to know of a good online store that carries the Schaller M4s Lights? I've been having a really hard time finding them locally, I ordered a set from a store 4 months ago and they're being unresponsive about where the order stands, and every other store that carries Schaller says it'll be a 6-8 week wait at least. I haven't found any on Ebay either.

Ya these aren't the right ones. The M4 and M4s are two different animals. Wal uses M4S and the M4 are tuners for older Warwicks or Spectors......the newer Warwicks are similiar in size but have a differ placement for the set screw.

I had no problem ordering directly from Schaller. Just go to their site, click to the M4S Lights, select your style i.e. chrome, gold, etc., number of tuners, and click to check-out. If you need 5 tuners, as for some finishes they don't show a selection for 5, just pick the appropriate 4-string set and write in the comments that you need the fifth tuner also and specify which side. You can eMail "Dr. Lars Bünning" <[email protected]>, for assistance. Lars was a great help to me. And...I'm about to order another set for my other Mark II 5....these things truly balanced my Mark II 5 Fretless. Still a heavy bass, but being balanced has brought back the joy of playing it.

The problem is, Schaller doesn't ship to Canada, and Coast Music who they refer you to are only a distributor, you can't buy directly from them, which is what lead me to contacting local music stores without success. I appreciate the input, I'll double check the Schaller site again once I get to work.

Cheers for the input. I think for me in an ideal world I'll get a 4 string fretless and a mk3 5 string fretless!

Whats you favorit strings for your wal bass?
I use daddario balance tension. (45-107)
Im so use to daddario and the balance make it just great!
But its been a hard time to make the strings go low as hell with the wal bridge! So some papper between the neck and body was the solution:thumbsup:. Now i can go low low! Before that i hade to use the dean markley helix NPS that are tapered (e and a string). Great strings also IMO!
Thinking about the dr lo-riders just for the stiffness!! Maby the DR miller? :laugh: Maby i need some help from Dr miller :cool:
