I had one just like it (sold it locally to a friend).....it was made in '82 i believe.

Yes that's mine, it is also an '82 lacewood, the battery lead is there, it's just over the bridge pickup pot and 1/4 input jack.

Thinking more about it, what I would love is MK1, with the current electronics, in a red stain but have a leather tooled scratch plate fitted.


Like this, but in red...maybe with slightly distressed black leather.

that would be a cool looking concept. not sure if Paul would have a scratch plate like that, but from what i remember reading this guy @zomnius (in basschat or facebook) had mentioned knowing someone that would make one (although i have never seen any examples/samples of any)

i need it some times (depending on the string brand) but i prefer not to use it! But sometimes i have no options!
The action is way to high otherwise.

I didn't install any myself, but several of the older Wals I've owned came with shims installed.

he's one that for sale on reverb:

as you can see the the shim is factory installed. as i vaguely recall, i may have a couple like this too, but i see nothing wrong with needing a shim if the setup requires it.

so the question is why not paul lower the bridge just a tiny bit? like they did on stu hamm warwick bass?
it would make a big upgrade! well! we use the shim and we are happy with the best bass ever! but i need the mini pick guard to make the it perfect!

I've tried flats on my fretless basses; labelas, chromes and TI's to be exact. I wasn't exactly impressed by the sound i was getting with them. i've actually settled in and found that i like labela black tapewounds on em. which flats were you thinking of trying out?

Trying Labella low tension flats. I have and like TIs on a Rick and a fretless P. Wanted to try these and try one one thing with my ProIIe that I had defretted. I haven't been able to get comfortable with fretless rosewood fingerboard.
