Thanks for the tips! BTW, I figured out the truss rod size (5/32" hex which I have here) and was able to make the adjustment. Success!

I'll pick up some black Hipshot ultralites. Regarding the knobs - how much is costly?! I'm almost afraid to ask! haha

You'll have to ask Paul about the knobs.

As for the Hipshots. I looked at their site and one particular customer comment says he ordered as set of combo black & chrome tuners direct and was charged for the same cost of black. So there you go!
They are the HB6Y-3/8 series.

Just remember that the Wal ISN'T a natural wood/oiled wood finish, it's varnished (albeit a thin but strong varnish). Pete always used to recommend just using any standard domestic furniture polish so long as it was silicone free. That plus a soft, lint free cloth and you're sorted. No super special treatment needed.

PS that's a lovely shedua top. That flaming will look great shimmering under stage lights.

Yes, I noticed that comment as well. I do like the black/chrome tuners on this bass, but I can always go with black if necessary. Thanks!

Ah, this makes sense. If Pledge is silicone-free I might just use that!

Thanks! Now that it's setup and sporting new EB Colbats, I'm really impressed with the bass. Can't wait to play it live.

I just checked my past emails with Paul and this is what he quoted me:

4 knobs - £84

not sure if prices went up since then so you'll have to email him and get an updated price if your going to order them - but at least you know a ball park right now.

I'm thinking of keeping my Mk1 fretless and having it converted to fretted. It sounds great as is, but I'm resigned to the fact that I'm not a fretless player and it would be great to have a 4-string fretted Wal as a companion to my Mk3 5-string.

Anyone have suggestions for luthiers with experience in doing this type of work? I don't want to send it out to just anyone!

Now you're starting to make sense! Hard to own 'just one'. LOL!

Jim Mouradian would be an excellent luthier.

While Mike Lull did my Mk1, I wouldn't go back for that, he charges waayyyyyy to much.

Haha! So true. I went down that path with Spectors and now Wals! Thanks. Jose had mentioned Mike and Jim as well. I was just wondering if there was anyone else out there, but of course two options are really enough. Of course, I've heard of Mike Lull, but if Jim can do the same work at a reduced price, then that will likely be my choice. Plus he's in MA and I'm in PA so I would save on shipping and having my bass travel cross-country.

Hi everyone,just received this killer 2014 MK III it did not come with any truss rod or bridge saddle adjusters. Could someone please tell me what kind of wrenches,and what size I need to purchase? This pic is from one of the sellers.I will post some new pics this weekend.

Thank you! It was a very busy day at work, so I only had a chance to play a couple of hours last night. Trying to learn the preamp, one moment I had a tone that I heard In my head for years loved it! Then a few minutes later curious to explore new sounds completely forgot how I set it!:rolleyes::D

I've just started playing Wals and have faced the same issue. What's proved helpful for me is using my phone to snap a picture of the settings when I find a tone I really like. Honestly, it's a nice problem to have as most basses have a small number of tonal options.
