however since the Mk3 body is slightly smaller, you might need to fashion some type of side cushion to keep the body from moving a bit.
here's a pic of a hiscox case with the side cushions for reference (believe this one was for the purpleheart 6er i owned)

Breathtaking! I love this bass. Is this the same one I have seen in the "senior photo" of the previous owner?
It would be perfect case for a Mk2.
The Mk3's would fit fine but would flop around inside, my Wal/Hiscox cases for my Mk3's have the side bolster cusions.

lol first i seen this pic!, but ya not the same one as you already noticed. it also had no headstock matching laminate and gold hardware either.
where did you find that pic, owner looks pretty young to be sporting a nice instrument. is that what you meant by senior?? since it looks like a year book photo
This bass pictured there is circa 86/87 ish. I can tell it has the early narrow pickups and closer spacing like my 86.
That dude could be about my age or a few years older by now. So it wouldn't have been as much of an expensive back then, but still pricey.
Can anyone suggest what kind of wood top is on this bass ??
I second the "walnut" opinion. If you take a peek at the inside of the control plate (or ask for a picture of it if the bass isn't yours) you should be able to confirm, as there will (or at least should) be a handwritten note identifying the various woods making up the bass.
Walnut "usually" has more figuring/wavy lines than bass posted above......but quite possible.
Yes, if you have access or can get a pic of the backplate, it will def have listed what the top wood is.

If it is padauk it's very old padauk; that wood generally doesn't appear quite so brown unless it's been oxidizing for a very long time. Most padauk guitar tops maintain a far brighter red/orange/rust colored hue.
