naww...i got rid of facebook. Miss the bass stuff, but everything that was on newfeed was either sadness in the world, politics (more sadness) or people breaking bones or crashes etc., Im too happy to constantly see that stuff. So thanks for being my eyes - if you happen to come across one.

^^ that was my old WAL I sold years ago. It was a nice bass but VERY dark sounding compared to my Zebrano lefty.

I guess all the solid body basses were also high gloss, non transparent finished? I always had the impression that a thick gloss finish affected the sound more than the wood choice. I guess it boils down to a mixture of all the components.
I had two very similar Spectors, both with the same pickups and same wood. One had that nice black stain matte satin finish (it feels like no finish at all, very very thin) and the other was ultra amber high gloss, a very thick high gloss finish. They sounded so different, the gloss one had a scooped sound to it with lots of bass and high end sparkle while the seemingly unfinished bass had a warm woody tone. Still, they both unmistakably sounded like a Spector.
I've to date only played four Wals, and owned only two. The one I have now is a mid focused sounding Mk1 with walnut facings and the finish is very worn, on some places down to the wood. The Irish yew Mk1 I had before that had more bass response (and a very different neck profile) and was tamer in the high mids. The overall sound is the same though.
The phattest sounding was a MK2 Midi Wal with wenge facings at Spiritchasers home. That one really drew me into the whole Wal madness but I was'nt too fond of the plastic covered fingerboard. It played good, it didn't feel particularly bad or anything. It was just a strange thought to pay 3k€ for something with a plastic fingerboard.
But the tone was to die for. I remember playing a few Tool tunes with it and instantly fell in love. That grunt in the low D... boy. Every string sounded different, in a good way. Pure sex. I really regret not buying that one back then.
I also tried out his white/gold MK2, a very special Wal with some lighter body wood. I can't remember the exact tone, I was focusing more on buying that irish yew one that day
but I'm sure @spiritchaser can chime in.
Well... my first Wal was a Padauk faced with a scorched finish (nothing left really). That bass ripped your face off. The wood was too discolored to continue life as natural so I had it refin'd in white poly. The sound tightened up just a tad snappier going from natural to poly, but the tone still ripped your face off. I wish I hadnt sold it.
The rest of the solid ones I had (still have two) are solid mahogany. Now I have one new era and one old Pete era. The Pete one is typical scooped with what seems like the heaviest mahogany. My Paul era bass has lighter weight mahog and seems to have a little better upper midrange. I do think Paul is using a different mahog than Pete to get the upper end to come out better.

The majority of solid color Wal (Customs) will have solid mahogany bodies, your white one probably does too.
Have only heard of a few that have facings with opaque paint covering it.

Hey guys what do you think it would cost to have a Fretless Wal fretted. I’m eyeing that 5 string in the classifieds but I would want to have it fretted, is not a Fretless guy. Curious if any of you have had that done and what a ballpark cost would be.
I just had it done by Mike Lull on a six string. Re fret with plek job was $1100. Worth every penny. Action and set up is the best I have ever played. Period.

As a fretless player, I really wish people wouldn’t do this to fretless Wals! Although I guess it makes my ‘85 fretless that much rarer...
I hear ya man haha. I’ve just never been a Fretless guy. Ironically, the bass in the classifieds was a fretted bass and somebody sent it back to Wal to have it made into a Fretless.
