Yes, I definitely agree about Paul; it's been a great pleasure to deal with him and he also gave me the chance to visit his workshop, showing me the entire making process of a Wal bass, and let me handpick the wood for top and back.
I have to say that it's almost a one-man-making and when I went there I found him in the spray booth lacquering three necks....
I will have mine completed within March, and this is how it looked like by the end of January.
It's still missing the high gloss finish on the body, but the pic can give you an approx idea of what it will look like :)

He asked me a 500 pounds deposit and a definition of the neck's specs.

When the neck is processed, another 1000 pounds deposit (via paypal, plus 4,5% pp fee)

Balance should be paid on delivery. I could choose facings after I decided what I really wanted, but neck should be defined first.

MK 1 starts at 3500. A MK I Geddy should go for 4.4k pounds due to the black gloss finish (much more expensive than satin) and gold hardware.

MK 2 and 3 starts at 3650.

I trully recommend dealing with Paul. It's definitely not cheap, but a Wal worths every penny.

Glad I bought my Wal new when I did. It was about half of that. :D

I'm 21. And, it is an insane amount of money. But, as a full time college student that works 40 hours a week + overtime on the weekends, it's something I ended up allowing myself to splurge on. Originally I wanted to order a new one from Paul. But, after saving up for so long I ended pulling the trigger on a used one because the cards lined up for me. I'd still love to order a new one someday in the future. Paul is a true gentleman.

However, my first Wal is now gone. And, I now have this to keep me company... :ninja:

I have never experienced a more comfortable neck on any guitar or bass. Switched places with my guitar player last night and he didn't want to put it down. So, I was stuck playing guitar all night. Gave me plenty of time to enjoy the gorgeous finish from across the room, though. :smug:

That is my old Wal, and it was the best sounding and playing of the many that I have owned. Enjoy!

That's funny, until now, i didn't even realize that. Thanks for pointing that out.

From what I gather of the history of this bass, the original fretboard was converted to fretless at one point in time. Then the owner who acquired it after the fact got it to his possession and had Mike Lull basically re-do the whole fretboard and had it refretted with vintage sized frets.

such an amazing wal. we're the same age yet i think i'll never own a wal haha...:hmm:. not that i really couldn't afford it if i really wanted to, i'm a really good saver but that's just the problem. i couldn't stomach spending all that in the position i'm in plus with my parents being on the rocks cause of the economy. you're a trooper btw, i can only be so busy at once and need free time to enjoy myself a bit. both fulltime work + college sounds really tough.

Aye, thanks man!

My lady was the one that actually gave me the final push I needed to make the financial commitment. She made me realize that it is a sort of investment. These bass guitars hold their value fairly consistently.

As far as work and school goes...it's tough sometimes. I'm two years in and still have about six left (I'm a pre-med student). Someday it will all be worth it, though. :)
