Funny thing is, this is actually a bit of a throwback to the way in which Pro Series necks were made. They had two carbon fibre stiffening rods as standard. In the end, when they went toe the Custom series basses Ian and Pete dispensed with them as the multi-laminate design of the necks made then more than sufficiently stable without the carbon fibre. They dispensed with the inner hormbeam laminates, swapping them for maple for similar reasons. Hornbeam (also known as "Ironwood") has a reputation for being incredibly strong and stiff.

Actually this is for the graphite reinforcement of the old days. Paul is using 2 carbon fiber rods instead.

My “geddy” mk1 neck was so strange (weak) that I decided to order a new neck. With Carbon fibre reinforcement and a slightly rounder neck profile. And with a clean fretboard.
Now the bass is back and the neck is stronger than ever.

I just saw this one when I was browsing. How would you guys compare the tone of the pro 1 to an MK model. I was thinking of grabbing this because I’m missing having a 4 string so much but I guess with just one passive pickup I worry that it’s probably not too similar to the sounds I’m used to getting. Any info from somebody Whoes played both would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you may need to pass on this if your already accustomed to a certain sound. Pro's are excellent basses and sound great, but Custom Mk series basses and Pro's are two different animals. There are some tones you could get pretty close to each other, but the Custom series have a filter based preamp, whereas the Pro you are looking at has a passive circuit (volume and tone using a capacitor) with a switch to change the pickup to be series/parallel......

The so-called Reddy Lee doesn't appear to have gold hardware, which makes it not a Reddy Lee. Still a gorgeous piece, just not a Reddy Lee.
Before any exchage rate fees and shipping: almost 10k on the Mk1 and almost 12k on the 5 string, nothing listed on the red Mk2 but it will be much more than the other two.
Yeah that’s pretty steep. At that point might as well order new and get exactly what you want.
Yeah, it actually does have gold hardware.
It looks like there’s no extra laminate between the maple and the mahogany, which rather blurs the boundary between them.
