Why, yassar. It 'tis. That's odd. I admire your memory, good sir. A bit envious of it as well. Ha! All I remember from those trips are the Wal, but there were soo many beautiful basses there in a small space. I was there three times:
1st Trip: Simple road trip. Saw, then played a 4string Wal for first time ever (didn't even know about 'em!)
2nd Trip (sometime later): Ordered a Wal.
3rd Trip: Picked it up! They called me outta the blue one day, even stayed open late because of my drive. Bass World was closed (Bass World had another name though too, Planet Something?). I actually picked it up at the other store. I remember being surprised about the case. Have to admit, I didn't like the plastic case. Haha!

Paul is adamant about NOT using maple for a fretboard selection and only will used rosewood or ebony....he never gave a reason so its anyone's guess.

The Alembic is gone, so that’s no longer a trade option. I still the AC KBP4 which is deadly P and Jimmy’s 16th bass ever made and is in the classifieds. I have very cool Maple topped Monarch Deluxe 4 that is also listed. It’s Victor Wooten latest specs with the EMG pickups. I’ve realized that I don’t like Seymour Duncan pickups in a Fodera either the single or dual coils. The EMG P/J and Mike Pope Preamp is much better. And the only setup this far that sounds good with both pickups balanced.

Alright, bracing for a serious winter storm where I’m from. Is it all hype? We’ll find out soon enough! I’ve got two basses on their way to me!

No doubt! Great read! This actually cleared up a vague nag I've had for so long-- I could've sworn the first Wal (MK2 in hindsight) I ever played was a grayish wood. Months later, I went back to the bass dealer and said, "I want that wood but 5-string please". When I finally got it, I was totally confused because it wasn't grayish in the slightest! Now I read @TrevorR blog about Shedua and find out it was sapling! Life's a trip.

Here’s what Wikipedia says (so it must be true...)

“Guibourtia ehie is an evergreen tree of the genus Guibourtia in the family Fabaceae, also known by the common names Amazique, Amazoué, Hyedua, Black Hyedua, Mozambique, Ovangkol and Shedua.”

On the Hyedua vs Hydua question... given it’ll be a translation from the language of Gabon or Cameroon who knows how a timber merchant in the late 70s/early 80s might have misspelled it. Dropping out an “e” doesn’t seem so unlikely. I suspect the discrepancy may be as simple as that! It’s not like it’s a common furniture wood name where a misspelling would be obvious like mapple, mahagany, or rosswood! ;)

@TrevorR You, dear sir, are a scholar and a gentleman. Thank you for all your hard work. It hasn't gone unnoticed. Just read your whole blog and watched those youtube Wal vids even.

YO! GOOD PEOPLES @kulit17 @Caca de Kick @Toolmybass (If I've forgotten another well-versed individual, forgive) In like 22 minutes, I'm pulling out the pup connections to the preamp to send to Paul/Peter. I need a guiding hand to help me not break anything. Needle Nose pliers at the ready. The top and bottom clips, I don't know what to do with. Do they kinda clip up and off the connector?. . . allowing me to gently wiggle/pull out with needle nose? You know what what I'm talking about, like like but here's the pic anyway:
