The base plates weigh different. Every piece of the new tuner is made of a lighter material, feels like aluminum parts when I tap on it.
I have a big bag of M4S parts, maybe I'll try to see of the old big ear fits the new tuner.

The Mk3 4 string uses the same tuner as the Mk3 5 and 6 strings.

It would be great to have the same bigger ears look with the lighter weight. Thats what I was getting at, thanks Mike, you read my mind, I would like to know if that would work.
Welcome to the Wal 6 String Club Chris! It pained me to let her go and it still pains me to see her.... but knowing that you feel she could be your “new number 1” makes it all worth it. The tone on this one does stand apart... a very special bass indeed! Enjoy!

My experiment with a 6 string was a Modulus Q6 I got just last year.
The tighter spring spacing was the key.
But man, the bass, holy crap!
It totally exceeded my expectations!
The slim body and nice neck profile makes it so comfortable to play.

Would like to try a Modulus 6 myself. Never player played on a Wal 6 string but they look too bulky to me. Somehow they look off to me in 6 string version. Wish they made the neck and string spacing smaller. But I bet they sound crazy good.
A Modulus Quantum 6 was my "gateway" to 6 string bass which has 17mm string spacing and 35" scale. They're worth the experience to see if you can handle a 6 string bass with the tighter string spacing which helps out pretty huge. The 35" scale was an absolute non-issue for me. Other players may find a reason to make it problematic simply because it isn't 34" scale and feeling like "home". 3/4 Upright has been 42" scale forever...and it's a great hand work out. Your hand will adjust with a bit of work or you'll find out immediately it doesn't!
I couldn't play 19mm 6 strings at all. I've owned two 19mm spaced 34.5" scale F-Bass BN6's in my time that I sold because they didn't work out for me. The neck width is just too wide and uncomfortable for me to play but it took me twice to figure that out! I've had the pleasure of playing a friend of mine's Fodera Anthony Jackson Presentation 6 which is 36" Scale and 19mm spaced....now that bass is a real "handful" to play. Plus being different as they're chambered and passive (not to mention quite expensive!)
I just had a Fodera Tony Grey Signature which is a Monarch Elite 6 stringer with 17.5mm spacing and 33" scale which was a blast to play, but obviously lots of $$$. I had to make a choice between the Monarch and the Wal, and the Wal won! The Wal 6 fits like a glove although I highly recommend trying out a Q6 first. It's the only way to be sure before making a big investment.

I play a 14mm string spacing 34" 6 string. I love the tight string spacing. More companies should make it. I think tight string spacing is gaining more popularity for 6 string basses. It's much more convenient if you do fast string crossing and 6 string patterns.
Wow, is the neck on your bass designed for 14mm spacing too? Not just the bridged swapped out?
That's really tight and I bet very comfortable to play. Not the best for slapping, if that is even achievable..but definitely beats 19mm spacing.

Yes it's an Ibanez gerald Veasley. I do a lot of slapping and have no problem at all with it on a 14mm spacing 6 string.
I never played the production signature model, but I used to play Gerald’s actual custom basses when I studied with him years ago in college. I remember them being super easy to play and imagine they just took his specs to production.
I never played the custom one. But that one is priced crazy high for an Ibanez. 6000 euros!! I bet they didn't sell much for that price. Would love to have one though. But it should at least be half of that price.
It's definitely a question of what you get used to, as far as spacing goes! I've owned a couple of Wal 5s, but I really wish that I could get a Wal 5 or 6 that matched the 20mm spacing on my Curbows and Bordwell (after 15 years with the Curbow 6...)
