What strings are you using? Really thin strings like Geddy was using at the time when he played Wals? I think he used 30 for his G string. And real low action? Because it sounds so rattling. In a good way. Bit too much for me but that’s person taste.

Anyway, good luck with your new baby!!

It came with the Rotosound Funkmasters on there. I couldn't play with them. I hit really hard and the strings were going off the fretboard and out of tune too often for me lol. I went to my usual D'Addario Nickels. 45-100. Thanks!

I read that he used Rotosound funkmaster 30-50-70-90 strings on his Wal basses. Which is really really thin. You can hear it because his Wal sounds really snappy and almost overplayed. Those thin strings with low action and digging in hard is what defined his sound in those Wal days. My favorite Geddy sound!

I did mention approx. units on the post, and I can't verify the weight because my scale is not the best (I'll update you when I can verify with 100% certainty). However, it is the opposite of the Zebrano Mk2, the MIDI bass feels like one of the lightest basses I've used so far. Whenever I switch between them I miscalculate the difference and almost end up tossing the bass.

Ah ok. I was thinking at 8.5, that was Mk3 territory. My Mk3 4's: 2015 was 8.65, and my 2019 is 9.0.

It’s nice to see some videos posted as oppose to just pictures of collections or pins from Pinterest...:)

Like many others, I’m home in Quarantine still...going into week #8.
This has definitely been a wild ride for the world.

I’ve been very fortunate to be stuck at home with my basses and gear...

Here’s me messing around on “Gmork” aka my 2015 Wal MK2 with Zebranowood facings in Blueburst.



And of course my recent purchase...
My 2018 Wal MK3 6 string...Birdseye Maple facings kind of like JC’s spec

Almost drove to Glaser two weeks ago for Plek setup w/ stainless frets and possibly planed flatter neck (14"?). Can't get ahold of them now bc of the virus. Say more about Joe or Nick's idea of low action. . .

Upright basses are a completely different instrument. The construction is massively different. Plus they generally don't have frets either. Nothing against ebony - almost every bass (guitar) I own is ebony. Just don't understand the comparison.

I know Joe didnt and don't think Nick Plekd and set up my Wal. The action was set up very high to me but I have been spoiled by a Fodera. I will look at past emails and find out who set it up. I have the receipt at work but haven't been there for nearly six weeks. Will PM you if I find it. Overall very happy that I got my Wal Plekd and Glaser's price was fair.

Comparative design aside, both have fingerboards. That's what I was going for.

Maybe the strength of the magnetic field in the pickups?
Do you play with really low action?
There's a zone above the pick-up as to which you're actually overloading the pickup.
This can happen on any bass.....and since Wal's have ultra high gain....well......you're hearing everything.
