I've had five pass thru here, and I really like them too. I've thought about another, but I dunno I'd probably search out a Pro1e for more old skool vibe.

Yes my collection is the same...i think i probably had about 5-6 Mk1s pass my hands as well. My take on it and probably Mike is the same, but once you do get a chance to play with so many, you'll gravitate towards (and seemingly away) a certain model - it just so happened to be the Mk1 for my case.... Don't get me wrong I do like them all, but when it comes down to what i like more, i do prefer the body shape and feel of the Mk2 and Mk3. I still have one Mk1 in the collection currently.
My Mrk 2 and fretless Mrk 1 don’t have any volume drop in bends and I bend the poopie on both basses.
That's strange. I have played many Wals, mostly MK1 basses. But they all had the same. Most noticeable on the neck pick up. Not a big deal and it's not a huge drop but it is there.
I don`t use the neck pickup I use mostly the treble pickup and the bass pickup very very slightly. I take on Helborg approach even on my Alembic.
Funny how different we all are... I LOOOOVE the sound from my neck pickup... my blend is more often 75% neck/25% bridge or 100% neck - barely ever solo the bridge pickup!
i just tried mine real quick and did a similiar test to what you posted on youtube and i couldn't hear a discernible volume drop on my Mk1.
qft. I love the neck pickup sound too. My usual setting is all up, balance dimed a hair towards neck, so maybe 60% neck, 40% treble. There is a sweet spot where the mids are just right and the grunt of the lower strings really punches. Either that or ~75% neck or even 100%. With chorus, a smidge of reverb and a pick it just sounds godly for 80s or dark/wave stuff.
I had that on my Gibson Ripper, super strange sound. But yeah, kinda unique. I'd solo the bridge PU and play with the pulled preamp sound until I like it.
Yeah I had a Ripper once too. I have tried to pull bridge pick up switch of my Wal but it gives different sound. Less honky than an out of phase switch. I don’t exactly know how an out of switch works electronically. Does it set one pickup out of phase or both pick up together? Or one against the other?

the Ripper sounded great but was otherwise quite a nightmare. That bridge... urgs.
