It doesn’t need to be complicated. You could setup a shared Google Sheet to update data. You can set whether others may view or edit the data.
So here's both of my Mk2 5ers with their M4S Lights installed. My Mk3 5's have perfect playing balance and I always wanted that from my Mk2's. It is not a drastic weight reduction by any means, but that weight off the end of the headstock shifts the way the bass hangs on your body to the correct angle. Even sitting is very noticeable.
Interesting detail though, there have now been two versions of these new tuners. The 1st design has the Schaller script, the newest revision just has the S.
The 1st type: if you really want, you can simply swap the large ear buttons from your old M4S.
The 2nd version: the intermal steel worm shaft is totally diffrerent where the ear installs on. You would have to swap the old M4S steel shaft into the new body if you want to put your old large ears on these.

I've mentioned it here on TB before, and it's been on Stephan's Wal Databass for decades (and still within that info retained by TrevorR), and I'm sure I probably mentioned it on the old Yahoo WalBassesNaturally forum even prior to all of that. But that info is easily becoming lost again. So if a new Wal Database ever gets created, I would at least think that it should contain info as to whether or not a Wal was stolen and has never been recovered, even if no one else wants their info associated with their Wal that's listed there. If your Wal was stolen, wouldn't you want that info (that the bass was stolen from you and is still 'hot') on a database that would be repeatedly frequented by anyone looking up info on a Wal? Having that info on a centralized Wal Database is going to be much better than just having it buried within the pages here on TB.
BTW, it's a 1984 fretless MkI with walnut facings, serial number W2318, and it was in the heavy duty flightcase that Electric Wood offered at that time.
Edit: Changed the date above from 1983 to 1984. I ordered it in late 1983 and received it in early 1984.

Absolutely in the case of a stolen bass, it should be noted next to the serial.
BTW, have you told Paul @wal that this one is still hot?
I wish the first post in the Club thread could be edited to display the stolen basses. So that this isnt buried and lost.

1984 unlined fretless ebony Wal Mk1, W2318, in heavy duty flight case.
*I had a problem with my neck, and Electric Wood sent me a new neck, so the picture is the bass with the original neck (which I had to send back). The newer neck (replaced in 1985 about a year after I had the bass) looks just the same as the one in this picture (unlined ebony, dual string trees), except the Wal logo on the headstock is slightly smaller than the logo in the picture. Anyway, it's hard to tell from this crappy picture, but I thought I should mention it in case anyone actually ever sees this bass and notices that the logo on the bass (now) is slightly smaller than the logo on the bass in this picture. I guess Electric Wood changed the size of the Wal logo sometime around 1985.
And sorry, but this is the only picture that I have of the bass:
Edit: No I never told Paul about it, but of course I did tell Ian and Pete about it when I ordered my second Wal to replace this one (very shortly after it was stolen).

Hey, the above scan of my stolen Wal W2318 was made a very long time ago, so I just had a brilliant idea to try rescanning the original photograph of it (why didn't I think of that earlier?...D'oh!). And here's the result...still a grainy photo, but a much larger picture to look at, and remember that the logo on the headstock now is slightly smaller than this one in this picture:

I friend of mine is thinking about selling his fretted 5 string Wal mk2. What would be a good asking price? And is someone here looking for one? He is not sure yet though.
One more question. Do all Wals normally have the hand written information in the cavity cover? The above Wal doesn't have that. Only the the Electric wood limited sticker. No hand written sticker/tape.

I am looking for a 5 string Wal; and have been for some time.

So Wal HQ emailed me about tuners. I have a MK2 4 on order and since the original M4S tuners have gone away, my choice is between the M4S lite and Grovers that have a similar size, shape, and weight to the original M4S.
I'm leaning towards the M4S lite since it should make the bass balance ever slightly better, even though the aesthetics of the larger ears is more appealing.
Here's a comparison shot between the two:
For anyone who has done the swap from M4S to M4S lite, how much will it actually correct the neck dive tendency?

Today I have tried an eighties Wal MK1 that is for sale in my area. Mahogany core, olive ash facings, rosewood fretboard. Around 10 lbs.
The V shape of the neck is quite surprising at first. The controls are truly unique and I had never heard such sounds, it is very interesting.
What concerns me is the setup. The neck is straight but the action is too high for my taste, I did not have a ruler, but it was above 3mm. The neck already has a shim and the saddles are bottomed out. The basses that I have already owned in that price range allowed for excellent setups with low action if desired (MTD, Ken Smith, F, Elrick...).
I have decided to pass on the bass but if anyone has an opinion on the setup of these basses, it would be nice to hear.

i just got that email too, I went with M4S lights since I’ve read, if u can get a set, the original M4S can be swapped in very easily so if you don’t like the lights U have another option without performing major surgery
A week ago I bought a set of brand new NOS M4S set from a shop in Greece. They still have a chrome set, I would jump on those .
