I recently changed my strings on my one and only Wal MK2 5er I call “Gmork” and I can’t stress how much Fodera strings make a Wal sound!
If anyone is into switching their strings, I highly recommend their nickel strings.
I went with the Ultra Lights as I’ve never tried them and went to Fodera to get them directly, but I love the 40-120 light gauge strings for all my basses.
I’m sure to 40-100 would be great on a Wal 4 or the 28-120 on a Wal 6.

I love Fodera strings used them for years on all of my basses but they have gotten expensive.
I know many people don't like Ken Smith with good reason, but I like his ultra light SS they are cheaper than Fodera and nearly as good. Think I paid $19.00 for the fours and $27.00 for the fives.
Currently I have his SS super duper extra ultra light or whatever he calls them on my MK3 I think the gauges are 30-90!

That’s a great price for strings if they match Fodera quality.
I think Fodera strings are $40 to $50 a set? They’re like $65CAD plus tax up here at L&M in Markham Ontario. Dave at Ultimate Basses in Guelph can get them too. I got my strings direct when they did the 10% discount during the Christmas Holidays. Still cost me $50USD for shipping so I ordered 6 sets! I virtually paid the L&M price without as much tax and got strings they don’t sell here.
Silly question for all the Wal-nuts who have recently received brand new Wals, what strings is Paul using on new builds? Is it it a UK brand?
Paul uses D'Addario nickels. 45-105, unless you specify something else.
I use DR, mainly highbeams. For standard 440 tuning I use 40-100, and for a B I use a 125.
It's just the tension I'm used to because for over 20 years I spent 1/2 step detuned tuning in all of my previous bands using 45-105 /130 strings. And when I went to 440 in my casino band, my old string gauges killed my fingers.

125 for a B is decent too. I can’t do 130 and 135 feels way too heavy. I don’t know how some players use those EBMM Power Slinky’s. But I guess if you were playing down tuned, it would make sense. Keeps the same tension feel without the strings being too floppy to play.
My trio here is strung with D'Addarios. Center bass with a 135-50 set tuned to Drop A. Shedua in E.

It's been up for sale for the past 3-4 years. For what it is, it's overpriced. Body appears to be in questionable condition - the back of the ash body appears to have some type of "growth"..... the electronics are all hacked up and not original - it appears it used to be a Pro IE at one point but the PCB is long gone and lastly, whoever did the nut replacement did a messy job from the looks of it. Not sure why they keep asking for top dollar for this bass.... I remember awhile back ago it was initially offered for around $5k....but it seems they think they should follow the trend of the used Wal market and raise the price. Funny since they been sitting on this for a long time.
Hmmmm... but as new price, butchered electronics, extra knob added to the scratch plate, non-original knobs and none of the above mentioned in the ad... hmmm...
Yes that was what I was thinking. Almost 5000 pounds for a one pickup Wal even if it was in top condition is overpriced.
Wonder how these sound though. I would prefer a bridge pickup for a one pickup Wal though. Really like the ones they made around 1984.

I had one years ago but not as old as that one... it's like a P-Bass on steroids and maybe a bit too much in series mode. The bridge position in my '85 Pro One is much better.

Those pickguards are unobtanium, so you're living with the extra holes even if you refinish the body.
And you better hope that neck isnt separating at the center at the heel area.
