You’re right Trevor... I used this exact tone specification last Friday evening on Bob Marley’s “Waiting in Vain”.
Deep Low end with perfect definition.

I had the pleasure of using my new Black Mk3 and I didn’t think of the weight at all during the three hour show. I’m still in shock.
The tone is very different from my solid ash body, Rob Burns six string... as well as my Mahogany core Wenge sixer. Three very distinct tonal palettes...yet undeniably Wal.

I always enjoyed… [vol 100%, neck 2 (boosted), bridge 8 (not boosted), 70% neck/30% bridge, pick attack optional] as a fab, rounded reggae tone but with loads of definition. Great in the covers band days for doing Roxanne, Dreadlock Holiday and the Madness version of It Must Be Love!

New one on Reverb. Not insanely priced but the pickup placement is unusual to me. What do you think?

Wal produced those a little after they had transitioned to Mk I. Passive, single pickup, coil tap most like that one had the pickup in the bridge location. Some had it in the neck position. I had one like that 5-10 years ago. Lovely bass but I wasn’t ready to go fretless. Mine was less than half the cost at that time. Fortunately I have a ProIIe so not Wal-less.

Yeah, this has been called the "reissue Pro", most of those have the rear pickup, some have it in the front as Bassplace said.
I've never seen an active version, but Kulit bought an old early 80's Wal leaflet that pictured some Pro's, and the models features on it say an active version was available. Maybe it was nixed early on as it was intented to be a lower cost model, and maybe the circut pushed the price more then wanted?

I think the Pro reissues all have a rear pickup. Never saw one with a front pickup. Only the older Pro had a model with front pickup only. Correct me if I am wrong.
