On one hand I'm hesitant on making any changes to my Wal, on the other I do like my strap locks (using loxx duo for almost all my basses). So far I didn't dare to do it
I only have one set of straplocks, on my Jazz, from many years ago and Fender-branded I assume. But they are very noisy, just picking up the bass makes a squeaking racket. Are Schallers and Dunlops quiet?
I've got CFG Zero Gravity straps on both my Wals now, and they come with silicon washers that seem to keep them on pretty tight, but they aren't gig-tested here.

Hard to believe that Mickey Feat has never been mentioned in this thread (well, his name didn't show up in a search anyway).
Was looking for some information on MTD Grendel and BC Stadium and found this advertisement
Wals have gone up about 10x. That’s certainly well above the norm for basses. I checked what $1200 invested in the S&P 500 would be worth for the same period of time and it’s about $24k. So, still buy Wals to play them is my takeaway.
I think Pounds Sterling to USD was closer to 2:1 back in those days? so (for us Yanks) making those prices like $2k to $4k - the latter being quite expensive at the time even (Smiths and Foderas were maybe hitting $4k at the very top end in 1996 - Elite models, 5 or 6 string). Of course this has as much to do with UK/US economics of the time as anything. On the other hand, a new 6-string Carvin was about $1k USD at the time. Maybe that one was loaded; but also Carvins have almost always had very low resale values.

At the Bass Centre in Los Angeles circa '95, the new Black poly Mk1 I kept going back and trying out was $3200 US.
But I wasnt really after any 4 strings and would have preferred a fiver, which if I remember was 3700 for the same color. Plus CA tax.

Congratulations I love the triple layer on the body, very striking!
I posted earlier about looking for USA-based Schaller M4S gold lights vendors for my Wal second neck... didn't have much luck. I tried the Arkansas shop @mikeswals mentioned and another I found on Reverb, neither had them in stock so I ordered from Schaller directly and they arrived in a week, at near the price I'd pay in-USA anyway as it turned out.
The new set is installed, I'm very happy with them! Any advice on general practice for how tightened down these should be? Thanks again to all who helped with my questions on this!
