Wal Bass Club.

Paul sent me 4 facing options for my Mk2 4string build. They are out of Buckeye Burl, my favorite. I've narrowed it down to these 4 options. This will be getting clear gloss finish and ebony board. What do you guys think?

Seeing as you're going for a clear gloss finish, I think #1 has a lovely natural range of tone and contrast - particularly once all that relatively plain central section becomes occupied by pickups and hardware.

I'd also consider gold hardware with this choice too, to match the warm mid-tones of the burl.

[ #3 has some amazing figuring, but in my opinion quilts only really sing when they have colour applied before a gloss finish, a la PRS. ]

I changed my mind, looking at my Wal in the stand this morning. I realized the pickups, plastic truss rod cavity, and bridge are going to cover up the non Quilted areas on #3 which is now my favorite.

I beg to differ 😆. Seriously there was a reason in choosing a satin finish. I was going to get this Mk3 refinished in a PRS color Frostbite Glow. The pictures looked great, but seeing the finish on YouTube gave me doubts. I realized I would have to see the finish in person to make a decision. More than likely will now keep the satin.

Those are all great, but the first two have just a little more unique vibe, IMO.
