I'm back and forth on whether I want satin or gloss on my neck. my current MKI is gloss and I'm fine on it, but I can't help but wonder if the satin would be more comfortable. I definitely think I want gloss on the body though, unless I switch to the wenge facings. which I'm also considering.
Bass42 and AlexBTATS what was your wait time to receive your basses from the time that you ordered them, and for j.kernodle having a satin neck is the way to go most definitely.

All 3 of my Wal's have gloss necks and have no probs with them. My hands sweat and I also own satin necks on other basses. If I ever order a new one it will def be with a gloss neck

I gotta be honest, I love the look of my gloss neck. The neck on mine has a lot of flame in it, and wouldn't be nearly as cool looking with satin.
I've been playing Spectors for years so I'm used to gloss. gotta find out what the extra charge is from Paul.

Considering EVERY "pre-Paul" Wal i have ever seen comes with a gloss neck, i wouldnt consider a gloss neck to be an extra charge. I would guess that his advertised base price of a Wal is one that comes with a gloss neck
Me too. Its my dream bass. I talked to Paul extensively about it and he couldnt have been nicer. Really helpful and accommodating. The only downside was the wait time, so i started thinking about buying used. Still trying to convince the missus to let me sink $5k+ on one.
The satin on the back of my '09 MkII neck is now glossy smooth from being played. My old ones have gloss, and honestly I prefer the feel, (and I know I'm going to sound nutty about my belief on this) and I also think the thick gloss adds to the attack.
Nonetheless, amazing basses either way.

If you had just done it from when you talked about it a couple of years ago, you would have it by now. The nice thing there is you don't have to pay it all at once (like you would a used Wal). Pay a lump sum for a deposit and you have plenty of time to pay off the rest.

Hello ! In 2010 I wait 9 months for my MKII 5. In 2009 about 8 months form my Zebrano MkIII. Now About 16 months fir my MKI Geddy Lee. The MKIII 5 was bought mint from Paul. I think it was from a non payed order. So Paul had to re sale it and I was in the rigtht place at the right moment ! This MKIII 5 is the best Wal bass I have ! It is light weight, fast neck , low action and it has a very exclusive Walnut top.
if that's the case, I will definitely go gloss. was basing this off the original conversation I had with Paul regarding the order.
"The price for a Wal 4 string Mk 1 starts at £3650, this would include a choice of stock facings (Wenge, American Walnut, Paduak, Zebrano, some Maples) a satin finish, chrome hardware and a hard case.
Specially sourced and more highly figured facings such as the Birdseye Maple would be an extra £220 and Shedua an extra £180. Also extras are gloss finishes and gold hardware."
he may have just been referring to gloss on the body, so I will clarify.
Gwangi- I bought mine "used" but it is like new shape and had everything I was looking for without the wait but I was very close to ordering new, it will be worth every penny you spend and every day you wait!!
Question/Poll for you other Wal'ers- do you have certain settings you like with the filter tones and pickup blend controls or do you like to just leave it middle and cranked up?

the tone I like right now is blend in the middle, neck tone at 8 and popped out, and bridge tone at ten but not popped out. no pick attack engaged.
