Just received my 85 MKI :
1) Very good condition, almost mint
2) Indian Rosewood Fingeboard
3) Paduak Faces , Poly Finish
4) Brazilian Mahogany core
5) Birdseye maple, almost roasted poly neck

Very nice, love all the gloss. Interesting bass PJ.
W2760 would seem it should be right in the summer 86. But yours is really dated 85?
It also looks like the neck is all maple even for the center pieces, and no hornbeam wood. First time I've seen that, interesting.

Hello Wal ' ers ! I just bought from Paul this custom Slap Clear Pickguard and I'm thinking to install it in my Zebrano MKIII, also with original Wal screws. Once it's a 100% original WAL part I think that it will not affect the originality of my MKIII. What do you think fellas ?

I think that now Paul is showing your black bass (with slap guard) in the gallery pictures....it shouldnt effect the bass in a monetary way. (shouldnt decrease in value because of it)
I thought they stopped using hornbeam by the early eighties. Wasn't there a change from 11 to 9 piece necks or something like that?

Yea Pete stopped using hornbeam some time back (I bet Mike or Thom know actual year)
I think the change was from 9 to 5 (not sure on that year as well)
One word of advise for you....before you put the screws in, use a drill for pilot holes (drill should be just less than half the width of screw and mark with tape on drill bit about 3/4 the length of the screw so that you don't go in too far
This will prevent the wood from "bunching" up at the top of the hole ...effecting how flat the guard sits!
