A possible dumb question for you Wal experts...are there any major tonal differences between the MK's (i.e. I, II, II)? Im sure each bass has its own thing going on individually, along with what materials are used, but I always wondered that. I want an MKI but the II's and III's are more "ergonomic" and if they still get the tone, I may go for one of those.

-same pick ups
-same electronics
-consistent build quality

SMALL differences in sound/tone.....any audible differences can be eq'd to compensate by any "sophomore ear"

My first MKI and my MKII had over 20 years between build dates and I had no trouble making them sound like brothers

In my opinion the mki is preferable to the mkii ergonomically for playing in the studio sitting down.

So what happened here?

1. It initially fit?...and while taking up slack at tuner the end came out when you didnt notice and part of string got caught and caused the bunch up right before grommet/eyelet?

2. Or it didnt fit right away and you tried tightening to get rest of string to be seated?

When i switched my E string to a .110 i had problems getting string end to seat before i started winding...and sometimes it would slip out and i didnt notice it.

now i get them all seated properly and take a piece of tape and cover the holes so they dont slip out. Wind away and take the tape off after.

You may also have to switch to a different manufacturer if your E string wont go in at all.

Yes I do sometimes PJ.
I use .105 E strings and sometimes the don't fit the slot easy. What I do is use the smooth inner jaw of my needle nose pliers and gently squish the string wrap a little flatter near the ball end, so I slips right into the bridge slot.
