Bulky? I am not sure that I can answer that. I mean it is double the size of the M9 from what I can tell, but I have this case that I use because I want my investments protected.

so to me it isn't bulky because I was going to use this case no mater what I bought. If I had gotten the M9, I would have worried about it sliding around in the case. I guess for me I like the size and weight of it.

Very cool. I'm trying to avoid carrying something around as big as my pedalboard case. I have an extra laptop shoulder bag that I will probably carry mine in. I keep it with me-not in the trailer.

One of the reasons I keep asking these somewhat simple questions is that there is not a Line 6 dealer near me (or at least one that carries the M-series), so I've never walked up and touched either one. Just specs, pics, and opinions to go on. Nearest Line 6 dealer is 2 hours away. Dealers around here go with the old tried and true stuff they know will sell (Fender, Gibson, Ampeg, Boss).

And I thank everyone for their help.

I totally agree. I went to my local GC and they had one m9 in a box and no m13 and wouldn't open the box. So I took a leep of faith and bought the 13.
I have several laptop bags, so I will give those a shot and see how they fit tonight and will reply, I like the hard case, but also saw that I would have to lift up the back to plug in cables, so the laptop bag might be the best idea. I could then sell the case also to help pay for the M13 :)

10-4, Todd. If I could find a soft bag tough enough (not a rack bag-had one of those for one of my 3500's.), I might even use it to carry my LH1000. And just set the bare amp on the stack on top of a piece of foam I always carry.

I have it in an ATA 2-space rack case now, but it is heavy and bulky. The head is heavy enough on its' own. The fun is always trying something new. (Been jonesing for HyDrive cabs a while now)

Hmm. Okay, you asked.
After a hell of a lot of thought, I would get the M9. Again. And here's the why:

1) The M13 may have more buttons, but it doesn't do any more in terms of what you can do with either one than the M9. The M9 has all of the same features, just different paths to some of them.

2) I don't want something big on stage, I like that the M9 will tuck in between the legs of my mic stand.

3) If I could find a fuzz/OD set up that I liked on the M9/M13, it might sway me towards the 13, but I can't - mind you I've found a really good dirt setting that would cut the mustard. It's not that I'm all that picky about the fuzz - but no mix knob to dial back in a clean tone? Deal breaker. The big miss on the OD/Fuzz/Distortion is the lack of a mix knob. So I will be using a separate dirt box in addition to the M9. (And even with the separate dirt box, the footprint will still be smaller than the M13!) So having that out of the way, I will have 3 slots available at all times and the dirt will never get in the way.

4) After having the M9, I don't find a need for more buttons! And as the old saying goes ... "If it ain't broken..........."

I still haven't completely figured out what I am gonna use for transport and playing in terms of the M9 and my fuzz, as well as my receiver for my X2 wireless (all three will be going on some kind of pedal board with the Voodoo Lab Pedal Power). I will either DIY something or mutilate one of the prefab pedal boards I already have to fit my needs.

Does the M9 have an effects loop? Pretty sure the M13 does - if so that gives you a bit more flexibility when using other pedals. You can place them within M13 chain, instead of just before or after all the M13 effects... Don't know if that's worth the extra $$$/size/weight for you, but it might be worth checking out.

Yea an M9 with an effects loop would be really nice.

Yep, no effects loop on the M9. I don't think that will be a deciding factor for me, though. I'm purely thinking of size, 4 vs 3 effects at a time, individual LED's, new vs used, and price.

Well, the guy just left his $300 and took my OLP 5-string. We are both happy, now.

To throw a monkey wrench into everything, I've been offered a brand new Zoom B9.1ut for $210. Not B-stock. Not used. Just when you thought it was safe to go outside..... :help:

That's a big savings, but it doesn't matter if it won't do the job you need it to do. I'm still sticking to the M's, unless someone talks me out of it.:D And that would be hard at this point.

I played around for a bit last night. the M13 wouldn't fit in one of my backpacks, but that was a smaller one that barely holds a 15" laptop. I will try tonight with my full size backpack.

I tried doing some looping, and will need to work on my timing, because the loops just didn't sound smooth. On the plus side I am just barely getting into it. I turned off the auto save, but I think I will turn that back on.

lol yea actually been quite busy with rehearsals and trying to dial in my effects FOR said rehearsals. gotta say though....this thing is amazing. Every time I use it i just unlock MORE of its potential. The amount of stuff I can do with it is really amazing. BUT at least after about a week i think i have decided on the kind of delay I want to use most of the time. (Yes just choosing one takes a while).

I've been putting together a generic scene with most of the mmore common stuff for me, like an envelope filter, two eq settings for when Im doing funky jacoish tone or when I just want a deep digging in kinda tone, then there is compression etc. I actually like the envelope filter on this so much I may end up leaving my DoD FX-25 at home!

The loop definately takes some pratice also. After a while you will get the timing down, mine sounded off at first two.

Thanks guys. Sounds like the gift the keeps giving. I enjoy hearing you talk about your enjoyment.

Looking at an M13 for around $375, like new. That might be hard to pass up. It's hard to be patient, but I am still going back and forth from M9 to M13. Getting close though, 'cause my head is on its' way from Hartke. (Still the best customer service around)

Like to have a M13 in a M9 box. (nothing's perfect. lol)

Gus, I'm not interested in the Zoom. Just throwing it out there because of how cheap is was. It's either a M9 or M13 for me. (I've been uber busy-Got a very sick Mom-Big C)

On guitar, I'm all analog. I was hoping the analog modeled effects on the M's were ok, so that's good to know. I'm certainly not married to analog for bass, though. Looking forward to trying them all. After all, it's the net affect after all, that's important... The affect of the effect. :D

I don't care how the watch is made...Just tell me what time it is. :smug:
