War movies... Your short list...

Most 'Action' movies are generally lame to me, and CGI kinda seems cheesy, IMO. Lately I've been extremely fascinated with the drama surrounding the civilians of the WW2 era, and how at that time in history nearly everyone was somehow affected no matter where you lived, or whether you served or not 
Quite fascinating how different the technology and living conditions were, as well.
Yesterday i watched 'Secrets Of War' on Netflix, and i have to give it a thumbs up

and am very much enjoying the german movie "My honor was my loyalty" on Netflix

I know it's a good show...but I find it way to slow and usually puts me to sleep.

It puts me to sleep, too, but that's ok. Sleeping is one of my favorite leisure time activities.
IIRC, there's a Russian one called White Tiger that takes place during the Battle of Kursk... could be wrong, though. Looks like a good war movie, though, from the snippets I've seen on You Tube. It's on my "buy it" list...
Chock full of super-cool genuine Russian T-34 tanks & JSU-152 self-propelled guns, but also a truly unfortunate attempt at a German Tiger-1.
Worth a watching though.
Just remembered The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
It's about a concentration camp & the Nazi officer who is transferred to be the commandant there--and what happens with his family--especially his young son who befriends another young boy (in the camp) through the fence.

The same guy who wrote that wrote another WWII story called "Milkweed". It is set in the Warsaw ghetto.
I spent last week reading it aloud to a 5th grade class. It was a really tough read, but I stayed true to the page.
I swear, if My 5th grader came home and told me about some of the passages from Milkweed that she'd heard in school that day, I'd be waiting for the Teacher when they arrived for work the next morning.

Sometimes we need to hear things that are brutal...
We talked about that very thing.
I asked them why they thought their Teacher had chosen such a tough read...I was subbing the class for 5 days...and one kid finally came up with "So we won't forget about it.", and I added "So it can never happen again."
Still...it's a bitch to read aloud.
The Beast (1988). The plot concerns a Soviet T-55 tank lost during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.
Great lists, all of them! The Battle of Britain, Stalag 17, Dr. Stragelove, or How I ..., etc. (Plus, The Bridges at Toko Ri.)
I would add "Joyeux Nöel," a movie in English, French & German languages and points of view. My wife & I watch it every Christmas Eve.
The movie really puts "the Great War"—and all wars—into the perspective of the nameless, faceless soldier who has to do the dirty work while the generals, politicians, clergymen, and common citizens pontificate from the safety of their homes.
One finishes watching it with a great sense of gratitude about how good we have it. Perfect for the holidays.

I love Christmas music, and have a huge variety of it. Very few songs instantly go into rotation for me; this one will. And yeah...I got a little misty listening to it!
I'm going to check out "Joyeux Noel," too.
