Warm sounding class d head?

I have to go with the Demeter VTBPM-800D. Warm, fast and pure.

I'd like to hear some more of your thoughts of the mesa d800 compared with the GK. It was good at the start but you ended up not liking it? Another question kind of related to this thread: are warmth and clarity able to function together? Or does it tend to be one or the other?

We are a small 60 person church. There is no pa support for bass. Thankfully I have one of my Fearful 12/6 which drops the mighty hammer of bass to all corners of church. Can't stop that thing at all.
I know people get very sensitive about prices of stuff but what would be a good price for a TH 500 or GB streamliner 900?
I hate pedals! Sorry but I said it. I am probably a stupid head missing out on a larger world but I am an average trying to get better. I use to spend a lot of time fooling with pedals to "sound better" when i should have been using that time to actually learn how to play. I know most people don't do this! When I get better I may get some pedals but for now, no.
Thanks dudes!

I am terrible at contrasting amps. I will try in terms probably only I will understand and everyone whoreads this will actually end up stupider.
The GK is nice. It's got a lot of highs, to me really hi hi's. I shut off my tweeter due to this. It is modern sounding but only that.
The mesa rules the planet. It is inbetween a modern and vintage sound. It can sound fairly modern and kinda vintage. Not as high up top like the GK. If I was going to slap and pop my life away I would stick with the gk.
That helps no one sorry I suck at this !

To my ear, the Ampeg PF has a natural scoop to it that makes it big, but not as tight. The Tone Hammer has all kinds of flexibility in the mids, which can give you thump along with the richness of the low end -- but without mud. You won't get top-end glass and sizzle, but that's what the GK is for. (Because of the baked-in girth of the TH, a Jazz Bass works really well; they kind of average each other's strengths in a brilliant way.)

I have an orange terror bass 500 that I really like. It sounds nice and warm without the gain. I basically stopped using my mesa m3 carbine after I bought the orange. The terror bass 500 is right around $500 used.
Another vote for the Orange, love mine, very tubey and "vintage" - that's the exact tone i want and it takes me all of 10 seconds to dial it in if i need to (knobs get bumped or I change basses or something)

I doubt you'll need a 900 for that size room. G-B prices are low these days. I got my Streamliner 600 for $340 off eBay. The 900s are going for $100-200 more.

Hi all,
I recently bought a GK MB500 for use at my church. I really like it but when I used my mesa d800 there were lots of happy comments about the tone. Now it seems not so much. The GK works fine but lacks that warm tone. I am looking to replace it with something more tube sounding as I feel that is what the music director and congregation want.
That being said I would love some inexpensive (under 500 used) suggestions as to what I could get that would get me a warm sound.

I've always been a big fan of the GK stuff and would guess that the problem is in your EQ settings and not the amp itself. I checked out the EQ on that amp and would suggest trying a little work there first to see if you can get the amp where you want it be before moving on to another amp. First, try turning the contour off, as it boost lows and highs and cuts mids. That smiley face EQ is great for slap, but won't get you the warmth you are after. Next, try either running the treble flat or turned just slightly down while bumping up the bass and low mids just a touch. My guess is that the amp will sound much warmer with these very small EQ tweaks.

i have & am trying out a newer Eden 'Glow Plug' Tube Warmer pedal ... it is giving me the tubish warmth that i was looking for ..! the current vids don't show that kinda sound , they show more dirt stuff .. i found mine Used for around $100 ..

that and maybe some warmer strings ...?! i use GHS Pressurewounds ... they are roundwound , but the out wrap is wrapped under more pressure so it has a more Oval shape ...

or ... just installed some GHS Tapewounds on my 4 strg beater today to try out ... they should be warm and thumpy .!
