Hey - wait a minute Steveaux, you can't tease us with "Hipshot Ultralight lollipop tuners" and not show a pic of the headstock. I've been wanting to try a set of those tuners vs the much more common Hipshot UL cloverleaf tuners I typically use. Just love the 1968 look they give to the bass.
BTW - nice build and some original thinking on the walnut body finish as well. Usually most people go with a dark high gloss stain. Yours looks fantastic!

Steve, does the body have a finish or is it natural? It looks like it has a sealer on it of some sort. Curious minds want to know.

Warmoth sprays them with a sealer, but you have to fill the grain yourself, if that's what you want.

I wanted an "old gunstock" kind of finish, so I didn't apply any filler. What you see is about six or eight coats of hand-rubbed Tung oil (I lost count, my bottle-cap tally system was corrupted ). I could have applied more to fill the grain and achieve a glossier finish, but that's not what I was going for.

The neck is raw, and I wanted a similar texture on the body.

Thank you for the comment! I don't own this one anymore either, but it was a maple/maple neck, bound in pearl with pearl blocks. The body was an alpine white swamp ash body. Pickups were NJ4SV's in that picture, with an Audere Preamp. Hipshot tuners. Gotoh 201. She was a 4 string copy of Adrian Garcia's Purity for looks.

Here are my half Warmoths , the fretless is a G5 body with a Carvin neck , the fretted one is a G4 with a MusicMan neck.
Both are setup for 13pin output to drive a VB99

Where did you get the hardware for the 13 pin???
I've been looking. I want to build a fretless like yours, but with a single mag pick-up as well.

I have to say that with all the beautiful work that shows up here on TalkBass, one can get carried away pretty easily with OMG! set-ups. Yours, however, easily takes my vote as the tastiest bass I've seen here. Understated beauty, clean and simple, absolutely honoring the brilliance of the original Fender design. It's almost exactly what I did to my '65 Jazz almost 40 years ago. I ran without a pickguard so the only thing I'd change is perhaps a clear pickguard to show off the wood even more. I had no idea back then about where to get one of those.

Man, your bass makes my heart throb. It just doesn't get better than that.

Now that's some serious porn! Fully exposed wood with some beautiful grain. Love the 5A figured Bubinga neck, at first I thought it was lacewood, and the walnut body OMG how can it get any better. I'm sure it sounds as good as it looks. Congrats on an excellent build!

Thanks for the kind words! What you did to your '65 Jazz is exactly what I was striving for. I love Gary Thain from Uriah Heep and this was my tribute to his '63 Jazz bass. I was really pleased with the results.

Thanks, Actually the Aguilar preamp that I got came prewired to the control pots Volume(pull for passive), Blend & stacked treble/bass...I just painted the control cavity with 4 coats of Conductive Shielding Paint, replaced the 9v connector and shortened a few wires to make it nice and tidy

I really like your Walnut Jazz body..good choice! How heavy did your Walnut body end up being?(Edit: I see from your post it was 4lbs 8oz) I'm thinking about doing a Walnut G4 Single Cut short scale body but wasn't sure about the weight. So Maybe the Short scale G4 body will be a little lighter...Hopefully just at 4 lbs would be good.
