Very nice neck. I love the raw stuff, it really screams "custom" and feels great. Is that a macassar FB and neck or is the neck a rosewood? Either way, looks great!

Very nice neck. I love the raw stuff, it really screams "custom" and feels great. Is that a macassar FB and neck or is the neck a rosewood? Either way, looks great!

I've been wanting to try one of their guitar builds, haven't gotten around to it yet but I've got some PRS clone ideas kicking around in my head. A run of the mill PRS can easily exceed $2500 so the Warmoth options look fairly good by comparison.
Now that you've done both the bass and guitar build do you find their guitar options and costs to be as good or better than their bass builds?
Wow! Darkstars on a Jazz with the '62 control pot layout - well done sir! That a bass I've love to try out, can't imagine what it sounds like. Post a sound clip or youtube link if you ever get a chance.
Mongo2 - I've seen that one before and it's still my favorite fretless of all time. That picture alone should eliminate all debate about wood does not matter. I don't care how it sounds, that's some of the finest wood on a bass that I've ever seen at any price. Clearly "Museum Quality" in the looks department and I bet it plays quite nicely as well. Some mighty fine timber there man!
Thanks! I do love the feel of unfinished wood. Since it is "raw" the back of the neck has picked up oil (and sweat) from my hand and looks polished and shiny.
The neck and fingerboard are both Macassar - all ebony!
The Padauk neck w/ebony FB I have has responded the same way. Just feels great.

I'm currently near the end of a Warmoth 5 string P build. Not done yet, the body will get painted piano black and a black graphteck nut will be installed, then the chrome straplocks and string bar will finish her up.
Not sure how it will sound yet. The pickups are Delano alnico P and MM and the preamp is an Audere set up with a 3 way LP switch (neck, both, bridge pickups) followed by a Vol/Vol pot and then a descrete preamp for each pickup with bass/treb stacks into a stereo jack. The theory is that I'll be able to set the tone and vol of each PU to whatever I want then run them to seperate amp/cab rigs each with it's own unique settings and stomp boxes. The LP switch should allow me to mute either PU or send both to the jack. Could get interesting for songs that require the bass to sit back in the mix most of the time but then jump out for solos, or then again it may just sound like junk, regardless its gonna be fun. Here she is...

Now that's a first - I've never seen dual scpb set up before and it looks like it has a passive vol/tone stack for each pu (is that correct?). Would be very interested to hear what it sounds like. I've been looking for a really unique bass sound for some surf work that I'm doing right now and that PU arrangement might just fit the bill.
Also love that lacewood top bass, the grain looks like it's exploding from the neck PU out.

Thanks. They get some really nice pieces. I could really easily fall for any number of the ones pictured in this thread.
I remember Jimmy Bain pictured with an old slab body Precision inside the gatefold cover of Rainbow On Stage. Hard to see here but he had an extra single coil down by the bridge.
