A likely thing that someone with no stake and no real sympathy would say. The good of it is not as you suggested: having a "one of one", but having no more.
I hope your build turns out much better.
It's a shame Warmoth is the one giving no sympathy to your plight. They could easily get their cost back selling it in the showcase, even with the blemish.
I get disappointed from time to time about my projects, not going to let that stop me though.

I feel your pain. I got a neck from them back in 2011....the fingerboard has what looks like the very beginning of the branch. If it was a picture, I'd say it looked like a digital "glitch". Doesn't effect playability or tone, but it didn't show in the pics. I decided to keep it, but from now on, I'll go to the factory to check out anything I buy from them. I live in the city right next door to Puyallup, so it's not like a struggle. Maybe 20 minutes away.

Hey, in 135 pages of this thread - spanning nearly a decade - I have not seen one complaint about mineral deposits staining a roasted maple neck. Has anyone else run into this problem?
I started a couple of builds and one of the necks has an ugly streak on the head stock, about two inches+ long. It is a $590 custom neck: Roasted maple/unique choice ebony finger board.
Had I known my neck will feature such a blight I would have passed. If I were to sell the neck even the least fussy buyer would find the streak a reason to knock off a good chunk from the asking price. Warmoth guy says these things happen.
If that artifact wasn't there before roasting it I'd balk as well. I got a similar response once to a body that had a pickup routing a few inches off. Yeah it was a big deal, to me. Sometimes a point has to be made and you have to take a stand with any organization composed of humans that are capable of justifying. Sorry to hear about this.

I received the two "kits" about seven months ago and only notified them recently (couldn't open the packages until now, for reasons of my own), so that is why they will, except for providing a tutorial on how mineral deposits affect roasted maple and some great links for further information, not do anything for me.
To a customer who has spent $2,500 and change they wouldn't even offer a side jack plate to cover the side jack-hole they accidentally drilled in the body - $6.50 item.
Prior, I was having an itch to start a MusicMan project with Warmoth, but this incident scratched it for good. Instead I'll build a bass from scratch; it will be way easier than building a classical guitar was... just have to remember those pesky mineral deposits.

I know what it's like to know exactly what you want, and then have it be not right, so I sympathize with you for not getting what you want.
That said, I think that mineral streak looks sharp. The next neck I order will be a roasted maple neck, and I hope I get something like that in mine.

Roasted maple has a very nice colour/grain and it makes a light and stable neck. If you don't mind streaks, it will be a deliciously exciting wait.

I have a deluxe P Body just sitting around for long time because of my Lulls.
However I'm going to build it up for giggles and go with roasted maple. It does not require a finish but I'm going to put one on anyways.

Quick question for you all, How much of a weight difference is between the Steel stiffening rods compared to the graphite rods in an all Maple neck/fretboard? Big difference?
New neck with graphite rods is in! It wasn't a huge weight reduction but it was enough for me. It also helped the balance significantly- no more neck dive! @Doug Parent did an amazing job on the finish. It's like glass, so smooth and fast! I'm really impressed with the look of the turquoise dots & the sonic blue body. I know... the perloid blocks were some cool bling... but I'm much preferring the subdued look of the blue dots.
I am noticing a difference in tone however. The steel rod neck had a lot of "snap" and "zing" to it. Those are the best words I can use to describe. I threw on a new set of D'addario XL's on the new neck and it's not near as pingy as the steel rod neck was. I'm digging that, it's more my style anyway. Here's a couple of crappy cell pics!

I think I am going to try to come close to this Custom Lakland 4460 for my next Warmoth build, but as a P bass. I really admired this bass when Chicago Bass Club had it for sale.. It sold at the $3000 it was priced at. I'm pretty sure this would look great as a P Bass with same woods. Gonna Order the Body and Neck next week..Ash Body/Koa Top & Birdseye Maple neck/fretboard.
