I think I am going to try to come close to this Custom Lakland 4460 for my next Warmoth build, but as a P bass. I really admired this bass when Chicago Bass Club had it for sale.. It sold at the $3000 it was priced at. I'm pretty sure this would look great as a P Bass with same woods. Gonna Order the Body and Neck next week..Ash Body/Koa Top & Birdseye Maple neck/fretboard.

Nice. A flame maple roasted neck would be sick.

Hey, in 135 pages of this thread - spanning nearly a decade - I have not seen one complaint about mineral deposits staining a roasted maple neck. Has anyone else run into this problem?

I started a couple of builds and one of the necks has an ugly streak on the head stock, about two inches+ long. It is a $590 custom neck: Roasted maple/unique choice ebony finger board.

A little too well done... an ugly blight on an otherwise gorgeous neck.

Had I known my neck will feature such a blight I would have passed. If I were to sell the neck even the least fussy buyer would find the streak a reason to knock off a good chunk from the asking price. Warmoth guy says these things happen.

You could use the vintage tuners that have a bigger footprint. That would cover most of it. Ooops - scratch that - at first I thought it was the back.

I think Warmoth would take that back if you contacted them right after you got it. If not, I would be disappointed in them.

Not sure I ever posted this here, new guy on the left is Warmoth Alder P in Olympic White from TB and a Maple/Rosewood neck direct from Warmoth. On the right is my late 80's Warmoth Swamp Ash P with a BirdsEye/Rosewood neck. The twins both have active EMGs.View attachment 749697

It is a self imposed rule, so it doesn't make sense to claim they CAN not break it; they WILL not. That is the extent of their customer service even though they messed up on other stuff as well (acknowledged by them). No problem, I will not be their customer.

In the future I will make my own necks from scratch, if I need any. Just got my drill press, shop is getting equipped, away I go...

I placed my order tonight for a custom P body and Jazz neck. Decided on a chambered Swamp Ash body with Koa top. Rear route w/P pickup only and a Birdseye Maple neck and fretboard w/ss6230 frets. Now the wait begins..

I did snag this Koa top for it though..This unique choice was the cheapest out of the five they had listed but it was the one I liked the best.

I have a different view on this, that "birth mark" is unique to your neck. It's not a blight. Wood is a natural product with variations. Does the neck play well, does the bass sound great? Those are the deal killers to me. I find beauty in the natural variations in nature. My wife has a birth mark, I find it beautiful as it is part of her. I understand where you are coming from but maybe looking at this little differently would change your feelings. Think about it.

Thats a good take even though the mark was unplanned and was not "ordered" so to speak. I had an issue with Warmoth that required a phone call with someone higher up in that organization that didn't end well (for him) as he capitulated and credited my account for the defective body. I felt fine about the result because it was THE RIGHT THING to do. Sometimes that becomes as important. I have not studied Warmoths written policy regarding roasted bodies and necks, but if I were ever to consider buying one in the future I would have to see a photo of the finished product before authorizing shipment. I owned and operated a retail business for over ten years and learned that handling issues and complaints is a very important point and customer relations is uber important.

I've been messing around with a headstock logo for my Warmoth P coming. I came up with these 2 designs and thought I share them here. Not sure which one I like best. I plan on getting one of these laser engraved. Might do a Black Onyx crushed stone inlay..I'm undecided as of yet.

Calling any Warmoth Dinky P owners: does that bass have better upper fret access (I'm talking 19-20-21 here) than a regular P or J? I can't tell from the pictures. On a regular P or J, I find my hand gets a little cramped up there. On my G&L or custom bass, no problem. I'm not constantly up there but often enough that it bothers me.

I am considering another custom bass and this body shape, but I can't tell from pictures. Bonus if you can compare the upper fret reach with a regular P or J.

Yeah, All my friends like the top one with the neck also... Going to make a Jazz logo also since I pulled the trigger on a Dinky Jazz body Ash with Transparent Turquoise gloss (rear route) and a Roasted Maple Maple neck/fretboard with Turquoise dots. Those new Nordstrand Big J Blades are going in this one..I should have the body and neck by the time they release those pickups.

I have a custom order with paint on 9/12 so hopefully I will get mine sooner than 8-10 weeks

Actually I got this a week or two ago, but finally had a chance to gig it and it passed with flying colors so its a keeper! Picked up the body here on TB https://www.talkbass.com/posts/18705333/ It was an Alder Warmoth P/J with a top stained with India Ink and a Tru Oil finish on the back. Found the Warmoth Maple/Rosewood neck on CL.

Black basses and pickguards are both not my favorite, after having dowels put in the pickguard screw holes I sanded the top down just leaving a trim stripe of the original India Ink and did my own Tru Oil finish (which was incredibly enjoyable to do! No joke). I left a bit of the ink especially at the dowels and was going for a "Barn Door" look which I think I've achieved. Added black Schallers and A Hipshot Drop D-tuner and bridge, and since it was top routed for a pickguard used a control plate to hide the guts (ala:Music Man/Early G&L). Dropped in some Active EMG P/J pickups and had a battery box added and we were off to the races. My only complaint is that when Warmoth routed for the P pickups, they over-routed a bit to leave room for adjustment since its supposed to be hidden under a pickguard. Without one, I have a gap, so I am waiting on a pickup trim ring from Dave at Frets On The Net. Here are some pics...thoughts?[/QUOTE]

Warning to new customers: They (Warmoth) WILL make the assumption (and that is a mistake of theirs not the customer's) that a pick guard will be installed - if the order contains one. You may need the pick guard for another bass but they'll assume that it is for the bass on the current order and will rout / dye / paint accordingly, sometimes with not so desirable outcome.

BTW, I love the look of your bass, man!! For me, you've nailed it.
