Warmoth Owners Club!!

Pics of my (bass) pride and joy as promised:

Allison
2000 Warmoth Jazz

Black Limba (Korina) body
Wenge neck
Wenge fingerboard
Hipshot Ultralite tuners w/ D-tuner
Leo Quan Badass I bridge
Dunlop straplocks

New in 2008:
Nordstrand NJ4SV pickups
Audere 4-band 3ZB preamp

Next up:
a Hipshot 3 string retainer - to cure a slight rattle on the open A and replace the current sub-standard string tree.

a Hipshot A style bridge - I play this bass at church, plus I'm a science teacher and I'd like to show some kids the basics of playing bass. The giant word "BADASS" on the bridge is a bit embarrassing. :rollno:

A question for you and any fellows with the Korina or Mohogany body with a wenge neck.

I am intrigued by the Idea of crossing a Jazz bass or PJ with a Warwick. I wonder what the tonal qualities of the above combinations are like.
If any if you guys could enlighten me with tales of your own experience, I would appreciate it.

mine is mahogany with wenge. (sorry, picture disappeared from my post - i think i cleared off a bunch of stuff on my server subsequent to the post.)

it's got super thick low mids, but isn't muddy. it's just massive sounding. but part of this may be the really strong fundamental from the audere preamp. notably more low end than my hard ash/maple 78 P bass w/a bart PU, but some of that may be electronics. i'll find out soon enough when the P gets an audere pre.

how thick is the p bass neck in warmoth necks? i am looking for something similar to mike dirnts p bass back shape

also can anybody put close up pics of their warmoth necks? like side views and views from the bridge

PS sorry for my english

the warmoth seems very slightly more substantial in my hand than my 78 P bass neck. it doesn't really seem thicker, but the back shape seems to fill my hand just a bit more, so perhaps the neck contour is a bit more U-ish than C-ish on the warmoth compared to the fender.

That's kind of what I had hoped for. Thanks.

This is a fretless J bass I built for a client from Warmouth components. He couldn't pay for it (imagine that) so I kept it and play it a lot.

I'll second this sentiment from 2minkey:

it's got super thick low mids, but isn't muddy. it's just massive sounding.

That's the case with my bass, and that fundamental character (thick, complex low mids that give it a really unique growl) has been there through two very different sets of electronics now.. so it's in the instrument, not the pickups. :)

The Nordstrand NJ4SVs brought out some sparkle and grind (read: treble) that I didn't think were in there when I had the EMG-JVs on. As a result, I've revised my former opinion of this wood combo as "not bright". Now, I'd call the treble character "Not sparkly, but really snappy" if that makes any sense.

Here ya go...

FYI, this one is now for sale in the Classifieds.

Question for you Warmoth folks: I've had several warmoth necks and never liked the feel... I really like how the build everything - and the paint work is way nice... but the necks feel fat to me. Is it just me?

They are on the bigger side, but I always get jumbo or tall frets on them which helps the feel IME.
