This is the posting for that bass on the dealer site. You can clearly see the flaw in the pictures if you knew to look for it. Actually 3 of the 4 pictures, as the other photo is a side shot where you can't see that area. They weren't at all hidden or doctored up on the dealer site. So the op's accusation of the bass having the defect hidden or disguised doesn't seem to hold true if you're talking about the dealer site or the Reverb listing (unless there are other photos of the bass I'm not aware of)

This is nuts. It was a $75 repair on a $4200 bass. Surine suggested that the owner take it to their specified repair place to be fixed. All of this seems pretty reasonable on both fronts. You people should just kiss and makeup. After all is said and done this doesn't seem like a giant deal to me. You got an awesome bass at a giant discount with a little blip on it that was fixed. The dealer got rid of his stock and probably made "some" money on it. He's supposed to. After this giant headache I don't think I'd ever want to sell another bass again.

Also, no one has been "outed", here because the whole thing is as clear as mud.

Thank you! Best comment yet and the perfect answer. There is no one NOT guilty or have a hand in making this little ding compound into a huge fiasco, from the manufacturer, to the dealer, to the buyer.

I would say that @BSW has outed himself fairly nicely. Even going beyond the rude interactions with a customer, he has gone on record stating the bass was "flawless and new." The evidence in this thread, which has been provided by more than just the OP, clearly contradicts that statement. I'm not saying @guitarded handled things perfectly but I think anybody would be upset given his situation. He spend a LOT of money on a bass and this quality of product and service is unacceptable.

For what it's worth, I also don't think Surine is in the clear here. Either they need to step up and cover warranty or they need to distance themselves from BSW.

You can post them. TalkBass will automatically convert swear words to "xxxx." Just make sure you're posting the actual text, not a screenshot or other image of the text.

Or you can just X out the necessary words yourself.

I was mistaken, buyer did not buy through reverb -- not sure how to edit original post.

While @guitarded may be guilty of snarking at @BSW - the very clear concept remains that @BSW still has NOT addressed (that I have seen) the claim that it was sold as new vs used. Surine says it was used because BSW bought it for himself personally and then resold it.

@BSW: Guitarded’s profanity-laden screeds DO NOT MATTER. Sure they may speak to his personality or whatever, but they mean JACK in terms of the facts of this transactional debacle. Pointless to mention them.

And I can’t be the only one who is seeing the actually-flawless photos of the bass in this thread, alongside the ones that do show the flaw. Someone would need to dig into those photos to determine if the flawless ones were old or faked. Since Surine says the flaw was there when BSW bought the bass, my money is on the flawless photos being doctored. But when and by whom?

The end result being a $75 repair is a drop in the bucket, but I think it’s good this all came out because, character assassinations aside, the factual, transactional business functionality on display here is atrocious.

Correct me if I’ve gotten any of this wrong:
- Buyer says seller sold him a flawed instrument AND under false pretenses which rendered the repair no longer warranty-eligible
- TB thread asks the seller point blank whether the instrument was flawed and whether the pretenses were false
- Seller says “no the bass was flawless and new” and ignores the question about provenance altogether
- Seller says “buyer was mean to me though, so I’m definitely in the right and he’s a liar” (yes i’m aware that sounds snarky, but it was used in place of actual answers, which is awfully deflect-y)
- Later in thread: Bass turns out to not have been flawless so the seller says “buyer knew about the flaw”

I don’t see Guitarded being in the wrong here as a customer. Maybe not very nice to BSW, but that doesn’t change the facts. If BSW was threatening with lawyers I’d have invited it; you cannot call defamation/libel/etc against a claim that is true. I don’t see anywhere here that the buyer said anything verifiably untrue.

I actually received a damaged 2500 € bass three weeks ago. I am having a very civil discourse with the store about it, because we are all adults. :) Read my thread about it („Warwick FNA Jazzman“) if you are interested.

For clarification, the photos that really matter or pertinent to this are here as the op mentioned he bought it off the dealer site. it's also mentioned that the bass was listed on Reverb. In either case, none of the photos are doctored and not by the dealer who listed them in both sources as you can see the flaw in both. The photos you mentioned, I don't know where they came from. Also the op mentioned he bought directly from the dealer site, where it is not mentioned in the listing anywhere that it's used or new for that matter. It is categorized as Brand new on the Reverb site though.
