Warning- Bass Southwest

It's a warning to not send multiple thousands of dollars to someone who is semi-literate.

It usually doesn't end well when you try to express your problems with a purchase if the person you are communicating with can't say something simple like "thank you for understanding" and instead says "thank for you understanding."

Seeing that alot of people don't see the danger in doing something like that, the fact that I've drawn some attention to it I deem quite helpful.

I don't think most people would want to send multiple thousands of dollars to somebody who makes personal attacks either. To each their own, I suppose.

How is throwing more negativity into this situation going to help?

because...the internet?

wait, is this a trick question?!?!?

and no thread is complete without a meme - at least maple syrup reserves are looking good

Hi. I'm not here to jump on you about this. Instead, here is an opportunity for you to set the record straight, but you'll need to do it with facts that you can post details about, so that the TB populace can make a fair assessment. We've heard the buyer's side, so how about your side in this very specific matter?

Item #1 to respond to: Surine, the maker of the bass, told the buyer that you, personally (the person otherwise doing business as Bass Southwest) purchased the bass in question for yourself, and are thus the original owner and sole beneficiary of the bass's warranty. Once you sold it out of your possession, whether as a personal sale or as a Bass Southwest sale, the warranty did not transfer as the bass was then considered by its maker to be a resold, used instrument.

- What is correct or incorrect about the above item?

Item #2 to respond to: The end buyer simply states that there was a finish problem upon receipt, that does not appear in the photos posted to the advertisement from which he made his purchase decision.

- Do you have original photos of the part of the bass in question? Is there anything that could have happened to the bass to support either (or both) claims, that the bass left BSW undamaged and/or arrived at the buyer damaged?

There is probably more nuance in the OP that I've forgotten, but these are the two main points that can be clarified and declared one way or another. I would assume that you would want to preserve good faith and a reputation, so have a conversation about it. Every angry buyer has the capacity to unleash strings of vulgarities, sure, but that doesn't mean they're wrong. Set everyone straight, if you can.

Well put!

And to Bass Southwest, if writing and grammar are not your strong points it would be in your best interests to get somebody to help you draft the reply. This is no to knock you at all but your initial response didn't help you at all.
You have a very fair opportunity to present some facts on your side of the story. Simply throwing out statements without any supporting evidence would not be enough to convince me or many others.

This guy sold me a used Surine bass that he represented as new. I have correspondence from the builder stating the dealer bought the bass, sent from the finisher with a finish flaw, to keep for himself. The builder offered to have the finish repaired, but the customer (dealer) opted to not have the flaw fixed and he took delivery to keep for himself, since it would never sell with the flaw. Crazy, right? Then he listed it for sale through his store, Bass Southwest. I bought it, received it, and immediately noticed the finish flaw. The dealer denied that the flaw existed at all, but it had been edited out of some, but not all, of the pictures he posted. As I said, the builder told me about the flaw. It was shipped to the dealer with the flaw. The builder also told me that now my bass doesn’t have a warranty because the dealer is the original owner, and the warranty doesn’t transfer. Used bass. All I got was BS excuses from the dealer, denying everything, but eventually offering to have the finish repaired. I decided not to send it back because the guy sold it as new when the builder confirmed it was used when I purchased it. I decided he couldn’t be trusted. He’s in California, I’m in Texas. My dear friend is a lawyer. He told me that I would spend even more money to pursue the guy legally. He said it probably wasn’t worth the hassle for $4200. So I dropped it. I had my local guy, who is very skilled, repair the finish perfectly for $75. It’s a killer bass, and I love it. So there you go. A tale about a $4200 used bass deal with A BUNCH of drama.

Hi to all of you reading this false statement provided by this buyer I have taken the time to location emails. Note: Most of the sales discussions were conducted via phone prior to the sale. This was the first email I obtained when this person received the bass.

1. Hi, Lou. I got the Quest today and noticed a flaw in the finish by the truss cover. Looks like the clear cracked and lifted in a spot. I'll send pictures. Clearly this is a warranty issue. The bass is stunning looking, by the way. And the tone is amazing. Looking forward to hearing from you.

2. It's on the outside of the cover. I've included a pictures of it, one of which you or Surine took, apparently. I got it off the base Southwest webpage. You can clearly see the spot in that picture. But I guess it might be easy to miss. It's clear that the finish has lifted in that spot and cracked. And on that same side where the wing joins the neck there's a bare piece of wood where the poly didn't fill-in. Anyway, it arrived with these flaws and I'm eager to get it fixed as soon as possible. I love the base, it plays fantastic and sounds amazing. This is a legit warranty issue we are dealing with, so should be no big deal to get fixed.

3.The spot was there before I took the cover off to adjust the generous bow that was in the neck. When I first looked at it I thought it was a light knot that Cocobolo has sometimes, but upon close inspection that's not the case. The spot is completely outside of where the cover sits. So if you're thinking that I damaged it by pulling the cover off, there's no way.

THIS IS MY RESPONSE TO THIS CUSTOMER
Hi Mark

As I stated I would get back to you when I return. I would like to help you resolve this issue as I stated numerous times. I would also like to handle this peacefully and try to accommodate you. I will have to reiterate some of the things we discussed via phone and via email first in order to get somethings off my chest please. First of all I gave a you a very good price on that bass. I also gave you a payment option.

I made it very clear to you that I was leaving out of the USA and could not conducting business while on vacation. You were aware of this and paid me prior to me leaving so you could have the bass. I can understand how you may have been upset but to harass me during my vacation was uncalled for. How in the world would you have expected me to handle anything while out of the USA. After several e-mails to you telling you to stop your text messages and emails you continued this was uncalled for.

The the treats of trying to destroy me to the bass world this was unreal over what you call a finish issue. The allegations you made were truly over the top and left me very upset and speechless. Then to try and get Surine basses involved was uncalled for. The bass was made by Surine basses and was shipped directly to me the bass was never used by anyone I tested the bass then is sat in the case. This bass was new. I reviewed the photos that I took and I'm still unclear what you are speaking of when you stated "Looks like the clear cracked and lifted in a spot". I'm appalled that you would accuse me of selling you a used bass. I have added some of your emails below. You stated that following "I'm not asking for my money back, I just want this fixed."

I honestly do not know what your speaking of when you stated" Since Scott confirmed the flaw was present when you took delivery". I was not aware of any finish issue and still do not see any when reviewing the photos.

With all the above being stated I would like to resolve this issue for you. Scott told you what I would tell you I would have to send the bass to Pat. I would be willing to pay for the repair-if the bass was sent to Pat only. Due to whats taking place I prefer to discuss this via e-mail at this time.
Thanks
Lou

Fair enough.... however...

Maybe time for the OP to post the emails from the builder to remove any doubt about his side of the story?

Surine never stated that to BSW I can assure you Sir. All his basses have warranties all new basses sold have s warranty period and policy. Thank you

Hi Lou,

You posted what appears to be a cordial first email from the OP buyer to you, but it seems your answer is fast forwarding to after he created this thread >

…After several e-mails to you telling you to stop your text messages and emails you continued this was uncalled for.

The the treats of trying to destroy me to the bass world this was unreal over what you call a finish issue. The allegations you made were truly over the top and left me very upset and speechless. Then to try and get Surine basses involved was uncalled for. ...

There seems to be a lot missing in between, such as other text messages and emails. Where are they???

I'm just trying to follow the timeline along like I'm sure everyone else here is, so if you can clarify what happened in between, that would really help. Or am I the only one misreading BSW's exchange?

Seems like the big issue here is a fault in the finish yet I don't think either party has posted a photo of it.
Hard to have an opinion on a visual flaw that has not been seen IMO.

While it's good to start sharing some of the details, I notice you passed over the opportunity to directly answer the salient points. Reiterating concisely:

1. Surine told your buyer that YOU personally bought the bass as a customer, not as a reseller, and thus the warranty does not transfer to your customer. How is it possible that you're even disputing this? Surine would know, and would not lie to your customer.

2. Was the finish flaw present or not when you sold it? If there was not a photo of that specific location, how can anyone prove either way? (My own note: at least you offered to have someone fix that, but I don't know if that's satisfactory to everyone)
