WARNING PF 50t does NOT fit inside all Portaflex cabs!!!

You came up with a solution and it looks pretty good.

One concern with portaflex amps in general, is that when they are flipped, during transport the head as some wiggle room. You see a lot of B-15's with dents in the transformer cans from hitting the speaker magnet.

So it's important when space is tight, to allow for a small amount of movement inside the cab. If it is an issue, in some cases a mouse pad or a piece of thick felt can help protect things when transporting the amp.

And it does fit into them now, but it's true that the oldest PF115he's and 210he's don't allow the tube PF heads to fit. OTOH, I've always thought of flipping the head into the cab as the least important aspect of the Fliptops, and I don't particularly even enjoy that aspect of them. Yeah, I know...a big B-15 freak like me doesn't like flipping. What can I tell you?

Exactly. I did screw my PF-800 onto the lid of my PF115HE. Two gigs and I grew tired of that. It gave me absolutely zero flexibility.
Screwing the head onto the lid just turns the whole shebang into a combo amp. And a rather inconvenient one at that.
I like to use my PF-800 with whatever choice of speaker cabinet is required for a particular venue.
I thought that was the whole point of separate head and cab.

Flipping works well for storage and having one less thing to carry. That said, I never bolted my PF-500 into the PF-210 I had, seemed way less convenient if I wanted to use the amp with other cabs or the cab with other amps. I like to keep my B15 open in my practice room otherwise I won't use the dang thing.

I mean, of course we don't, because who recieves the manual when they purchase an amp or cab used....

I want to forgive Ampeg for lying in the video the led to my purchase of my incompatible cab(pre "mod"). I want to forgive them for being so dismissive with me on the phone when I warned them that their AD mislead me and would continue to mislead others(this thread proves that I was right). I want to buy the brand new 210he or 15he that I would have bought when I ordered pf50t if Dino hadn't(possibly inadvertantly) bullsharted me. I'm just not there yet. Every time i have $400 plus burning a hole in my pocket, this lifelong Ampeg guy spends his money on something else. Several months ago I came close. At the Sam Ash near the Marine Park Bridge in Brooklyn saw one on sale in person. I removed the lid to check the depth of the brace and guess what?!?! It was a NOS incompatible early cab! I bit my tongue, shook my head and walked out. It still stings every time this thread re-animates.

Don't blame you one bit. You are taking it way better than I would have.

It cost them sales. It's why I don't have a 50t. I'm sitting on 2 incompatible cabs. And I bought mine new.

I made it fit. Armed with only a 6" plastic handled hacksaw, frustration and impatience I have "modded" the cab.

I have a buddy who owns every kind of saw you can imagine. I'll borrow one to clean it up then use some black stain on the fresh cuts.

Portaflex newb here sounding ignorant, but does this boil down to the pre-PF50-T design having the rear lateral brace 6" from the top vs. 7.5" on the main production run? My PF115HE works with my PF50-T, however...

Second question, and this one probably unanswerable: Why couldn't they move the horn down an inch or two when they moved the brace, so I can flip the lid front-to-back with easy wrist action instead of side-to-side, which takes Ringling Brothers energy and skill? It's the difference between "slick and convenient" vs. "unwieldy, but doable." I see room on the front baffle for that to have happened.

Just take out the horn.

I mean, that's the thing. Hacksaws are great for their intended purpose, cutting metal. They're pretty crap at just about everything else.

Using a hacksaw allows one to call the mod a hack.

If a hacksaw is all you have to work with then proper installation of the blade would've given you a really large coping saw. Most can be installed 90 degrees to the plane of the frame.
