Warrior Club Part 2

Here's the full specs.

Neck: Maple with Purpleheart tone bar
Fretboard: Birdseye Maple with Brazilian Rosewood Block inlay
Body: Rare Burl Maple top with Alder Back
Pickups: Bartolini
Preamp: 18Volt Custom Warrior Preamp
That's alder? Wow, that REALLY looks like ash to me.

Hi folks,

I have a 5 string warrior with a birdseye maple fretboard. The wood is definitely not finished, and has sustained a deep dirty stain mostly from the previous owner. I used 0000 steel wool to get about half of it off. I then used a little bit of warm soapy water on a cloth to lightly clean it, and this got most of it. However, there's still streak lines between the 3rd and 5th frets (they look kind of like string shadows). I've read many posts previously on how to clean a fretboard, and I'm just wondering what would you use at this point to get the remaining stain out.

Also, would it be ok to use boiled linseed oil, per the instructions on the container, on the bare maple?

Here are my top choices. Pretty sure I'm not going with Buckeye Burl. Kinda hate to do Walnut again, but I've also had Spalted Maple and Redwood before too. Hmmm.. Koa is what I'd really like, but JD doesn't have any.

I really like that particular spalted maple piece but it would also be dependent on what fingerboard wood you are going with. What is the fingerboard going to be?

I just talked to him, and he's getting me pics and prices. Pretty sure he can get anything, it's just a matter of money. I know Koa has gotten pretty rare and expensive; at least the really good stuff.

In bulk..it is getting hard to find. For "one-off" type stuff. There is plenty. JD should be able to get it. As with anything...Any builder will always like to sell the wood they have. Rather than get it from another source. That said...most nice top sets of almost any "common" wood are usually $50-$75 or so. If you like the look of Koa. Some of the redwoods out there have similar color and figure.

+1

Seems about right to me. You can even find exotic wood vendors on ebay and get an idea.

The tops in the previous post were all (with the exception of the walnut burl already cut out) for neck throughs. Here are the BO tops I'm looking at.

IMHO, WIN!

I decided to go with the Burl Maple top. This one caught my eye when I first saw it, and my wife and daughter picked it as well. JD is going to glue it up today, and I should know tomorrow if he can do a one piece top with this board. Going to have an ash body, JJ's (single coils), and no sparkle circuit. Neck will likely be a wenge/ph/wenge with a wenge board and matching headstock.
