None of mine have had the pinwheel.

To clean the fretboard, rub it with 0000 steel wool. I had a dirty maple board, and that's what JD recommended. Worked like a charm. After that I'd suggest treating the board with tung oil. Ping TB'er Jome77 and he can tell you exactly what to use and how to do it. He did it to my Walnut Warrior.

They have grommets now on the B/E string too.

I love the metal plate of the preamp cover but I think warrior need to do a better concept on putting the serial number in their basses. I am talking about a glued on plate behind the preamp cover with the serial number and the year of the bass, this will give the bass the last unique touch. I am talking like what Ken Smith does to his basses. Here is a pic of what I am talking about.

I've been offered this Warrior Soldier in a trade deal. Can you help me with a value?

t's a brand new 2011 ONE-OFF Warrior Custom Soldier with highly figured air-cured swamp ash, honey-tobacco hand burnished stain, birds eye fretboard w Sapele/Heartwood block inlays,maple/purpleheart neck, custom Bart/Warrior "fat boy" in the sweet spot ala Flea
What's most unique it is set up as a "convertible in that it comes with BOTH the 2 lower string strung thru butt "G-Force" and 2 bone nuts, B-E-A-D and std 440 (E-A-D-G) so that with great ease, one can switch from drop tuning to D or 5-string tuning BEAD, or switch back to straight 440

From my experience. Hardly any Warrior ends up getting more than about $2k on the use market. For whatever reason, that is just the way it is. Not that they are bad basses. Resale is just really low. So, if you take it on a trade and think you may want to sell it some day. Know that $2k will be right around the mark of what you will get for it.

Sounds like a REALLY cool bass though. Post pics, if you have them

The Soldier is also less desireable than the Signature or Dran Michael. Brian at The Low End sold one not long ago for 1699, and that's a retail store. Atlanta Bass Gallery has one hanging on the wall that's been there for a long time.

The Soldier's typically resale for less than the Signature's. Usually around $1200-$1500, but that sounds like it has some nice upgrades, so it could go for more. I'd love to see some pictures if you have them.

Depending on JDs mood that day. Sometimes, not much. ;) As a general rule of thumb, the signature will have a nicer exotic top, better woods etc. Signatures can be neck through or bolt-on. The Soldier will always be a bolt on. Warrior models, names, specs, etc. Are always changing. Which leads to a lot of confusion. And I think that adds a lot to the reason the resale is so bad.

Rodney is right, you never know, Case in point, this particular one is actually family vault (DM) air cured woods, only difference was the Soldier body shape , merely an aesthetic difference, and in some cases a preference to people (i.e. do you like your shoes pointed toe or rounded toe)
so it's no different than being a DM with the slightly different body shape ;) kinda hard to opine without all the facts right?

Otto has a smokin hot 6 indeed. Having made myself 2 DM-5's I am really starting to take to the Soldier body shape LOL
(p/s/ the late 2010 elecs have 2 trim pots for bottom and "sparkle" they work well - JMHO)

MAKE THAT ONE DM-5 LEFT

Question for the warrior heads !!.,,,,,
I've got a DM5 neck through and a signature bolt on with JJ setup ...
Alder body
Flame maple top
Purpleheart board
Maple-purpleheart neck .....
The dm5 is walnut it sounds a bit bigger than the sig 5.....Both are a bit thin sounding to me....who has experience with the fatboy setup?.... I have yet to try that pup configuration out yet....AND what wood combos has people had the best luck with?.....fat punchy growl that cuts in a mix is what I'm aiming for......been a mtd535 guy for years but the weight kills my shoulder ....I know the warriors have smaller bodies but I think you bass heads know what I'm getting at....ash body ? Ash neck? Growly bite :-)

I think I've posted this here before somewhere, but I'll post again. Here is a link to some songs we have recorded with my Warrior. It is a Signature 4 neck-through with the MM/J setup. The neck is mahogany/purpleheart/mahogany with a birdseye maple board. The wings are ash. No top wood. These recordings (for the most part) have the controls set at about a 5% nudge toward the J, 5% bass boost, treble flat, 15% mid boost at the middle position (I think 500hz), and then run through a Phil Jones Bass Buddy preamp.

I think this really cuts in the mix. The best song to listen to is probably Deep Sea, Black Shale as it is pretty straightforward, simple fingerstyle line.
