Finally remembered to take a pic of my 93 Fortress which I've had from new. Although Iv'e messed with other basses she's still the one I return too as nothing matches the feel and fit, never let me down in 20 years. Number would be appreciated.

You may have probably seen this one before from a fellow TBer who I purchased this from. I am looking to acquire a number as well.

'96 Fortress Masterman!!!

This is my first Warwick although I gassed for one for years. German made in '96. Wenge neck. With $200 of store credit, I could not say no.

So here are my questions. It is a little beat up and needs a good cleaning.

  1. How do I clean the wenge fretboard? Can I use Castor Oil like on a rosewood neck?
  2. It has a lot of little dings in it. Can I use a high grit sand paper and then use the Warwick wax on it? Do I use Warwick Wax on it? I want to make sure I protect the flamed maple. I am kind of worried about sanding it.
  3. How can I take the tarnish off the brass frets?
  4. Whats the deal with the strap buttons? They are recessed?

Other than that it plays great and sounds amazing.

Great friggin deal!!!

1. Clean the wenge fretboard as you would a rosewood fretboard. Use as little oil as possible.
2. You shouldn't need warwick wax. That bass has a satin finish if I'm not mistaken. You might have to live with the dings; sanding would mess with the color of the finish.
3. Fret polishing cloth
4. The bass has dunlop flushmount straplocks. Any Dunlop ends should work.

Welcome to the club!!!

????

I never noticed any lower output on my flashback. Lower output than what?

Lol. I'm obviously not following this thread very well.... Just realized that was a few posts back. Still curios what yer talking about though.

the lipstick pickups are lower output than many folks are used to. Higher than the old danelectros but still way lower than my P/J fortress... It never bothers me but I have seen it cited as a reason to unload a Flashback many times. Personally, NOTHING sounds like that bass, I would never flip mine.

Yeah... mine is HOT!

I think my favorite feature is the adjustable height on the nut. Made setting up low action w/o fret buzz a breeze! A good cleaning did wonders for mine. I will try to get some better pic's up.

This thing is so unique sounding. So mid focused. I play a 50's P and a Jazz and it is such a departure from those two. I cant wait to hear it with the band.
