Was there any good punk rock?

This type of hip-hop and punk were quite parallel.
It's interesting to see how, in New York, the beginnings of hip-hop intertwined with the punk scene at the time.
There's some fun history to be uncovered there if you have interest.
Obvious Troll is Obvious, but I'll bite. I've been lurking for awhile picking up a lot of great information on gear here, but this flimsy non question hate-bait spurred me to create a profile. Instead of engaging, if you are truly serious I'd like to pose a question to you about something I barely understand and don't really like at face value: Why should anyone care about Amy Grant? Was she ever any good? Did she bring any cultural value to the world through her Christian-Pop crossover singles? My gut answer is no, but I don't have the knowledge or insight to say definitively. This may come off as snotty and irreverent, and it is meant to be somewhat, but I am truly curious if you could enlightnen me.

If you like punk, yes there are tons of great punk bands. If not, there wouldn't be.

Kind of impossible for a 45-50 year old genre to not have some high points. Such an odd troll question.
I don't relate to much of punk music either (although I totally dig the ethos), but you'll never see me start a dismissive "I DON'T LIKE THIS SO NOBODY SHOULD" thread about it.

I sympathized with the desire to express yourself, minus the work required to master an instrument, but like any language, the more fluent you are, the more you can say with it. Three chords gets boring pretty quick. It’s not lost on me that most of the “no future” crowd actually turned out to have a future after all, Johnny Rotten an obnoxious case in point.
Punk is a huge genre. If you include hardcore, post-punk, etc. there are many, many great bands like Fugazi, Bad Brains, Quicksand, Handsome, Operation Ivy, Rancid, etc.
One of my current favorites is Turnstile out of Baltimore. They are doing some great evolutionary music, even did an NPR Tine Desk.

These type of questions can produce the same pointless argument no matter which genre of music.IMO it's like asking " is yellow a good color"? It's totally subjective.Besides aren't artists supposed to be open minded? As it's been said since Hector was a pup, "There's no accounting for taste".
